Have to disagree here - as an actual fighter bruce was good - as a martial artist bruce doesnt scratch the surface of what Chan knows.

As cool as Bruce Lee is and as skilled as he is(still haven't seen anyone better. Just people relying so damn much on aerials and fancy stuff that wouldn't work for crap), I have to say Chan is the better star. He's a better actor, he's funnier, he's more entertaining.

Although nothing takes away the feeling I get watching a Bruce Lee flick. The man's presence alone makes a movie worth watching to me.

Jackie Chan is a horrid actor, and they wonder why his films fail miserably. He can't carry a film on his own. He always needs a hip co-star to carry the acting weight of the film, and unfortunately that hasn't worked...except for RUSH HOUR. :o

Zenien

He's a very good actor for a martial artist, see any of his more serious movies and it's obvious. When he's speaking in English though, his speech is poor, so he compensates for it with humor.

And he's had plenty of hits. Now that he's getting older, he's trying to focus on creating an enjoyable atmosphere in place of his amazing martial arts. The guys 45+, cut him some slack.

See a movie like Accidental Spy. He's a very good actor within his genre. Also the most gifted on-screen martial artist of his time. Sonny Chuba defies logic considering he's so big (or am I thinking of someone else), but Chan is far more adept and has done things that no other Martial Artist will even attempt.

Bruce Lee was a highly proficient Martial Artist, but his movies weren't as good and he was never the same physically after his injury. Yes I think Bruce was probably the most proficient on screen martial artist of his time before his injury. But his (trajically) short career has been eclipsed by the other Martial Artists on the list.

And Chan is also a Singer, and a danmed good one at that. That has nothing to do with Martial Arts, but man he's sings a good song.

Second tht vote... and we're talking about GOOD ACTORS here... no talking about who can do better AMERICAN movies.

Heck 80% of JACKIE CHAN movies are better than most of the crap that comes out... like SWAT... BAD BOYS or CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Laslty... he makes wholesome movies that while the entire family can enjoy has amazing fighting choregraphy... which uptil now I've never seen in any movie other than MATRIX n DRIVE.

You cant really say who is the best fighter out of them as they wont fight each other:) The biggest star is probably Lee as he's so iconic although as he's dead its not really right to compare him with the others. The most bankable is prob Chan but none of them will ever be major A list players. IMO if Brandon Lee had survived he would have gone on to become a major star eclipsing all the others.

Yeah when it comes to star power Bruce has em all beat. But I guess that's also partly due to him bringing martial arts to america and to foreigners in the first place so everyone thanks him so much(that and he developed a method to fighting that revolutionized martial arts as we know it).

So yeah as a star and a fighter Bruce has em all beat...Jackie's still the best actor. Just watch Drunken Master(with subtitles. screw the dubbed version) and you've seen all you have to of his work(please don't watch Fist of Fury 2. I beg of you!).

What IMDB does in case of misspellings is creates a list of the first name given with all possible last names and takes the last names and creates a list of all possible first names. I cut and pasted from your spelling to try and find it. I have found that sometimes if the actor is a fairly minor one, using his name doesn't always register, his name will appear in the movie instead. So I'll take the list of movies you listed and see what comes up.

Yes I know they are all capable fighters as well but Bruce's methods just seem like they can overcome the old fashioned ways in which people like Chan and Li are trained...I guess you just have to read Tao of Jeet Kune Do to see where I'm coming from. I have read The Teo of Jeet Kune Do:) The thing is Bruce had ideas about doing things his own ways but whose to say they were right?? What i've learnt most about fighting styles is to do whats best for you - Bruce Lee said "if it works use it" thats somethng i strongly believe in when it comes to fighting. The thing is just cause he wrote that and developed his own style that doesnt mean he's the best. There are and will contine to be much better martial artists than Bruce Lee. Thats why i feel it's wrong to just say "bruce would kick their @ss - you dont know that. You like his writing and ideas great but you cant say he's better unless they ever fought.

Martial arts film existed BEFORE Bruce Lee. What Bruce did was make the west take notice. But considering that 95% of Jackies career was made in HONG KONG, it wouldnt have made any difference to him:o

On the other hand Hong Kong movie industry (arguably the third biggest after Hollywood and Bollywood) are very good at doing highly stylised stuff, which includes a lot of action, which a lot of Hollywood seems to be copying. Apart from in parts of the world of Manga medievil european influences are rarely seen (werstern done manga doesn't count btw).

Record of lodoss war
Tales of crystania
Chronicles of the heroic knight
The Heroic Legend of Arislan
Bezerk

are all examples of Japanese manga]

Plus there are games RPG's like the Dragon quest, Final fantasy, shining force etc

All HEAVILY influenced by european Medieval periods. In fact the first two series of games have been there most popular game series in over a decade (especially Dragonquest).

Plus there is manga based on other european time periods like Vampire hunter D, Ulyssees etc

Bruce Lee and Jet Li are tied for my #1 spot. I've always preferred martial arts actors that had that dragon kind of look. Jet and Bruce have it but Jackie doesn't. That doesn't take much away from Jackie though...he's a close 2nd.

Favorite film of each....

Bruce Lee - Fist of Fury

Jet Li - Fist of Legend

Jackie Chan - Police Story

What I mean by Dragon look is that "you're about to get your ass beat down" kind of look lol. Bruce and Jet both have that arrogant sneer they can project that intensifies their fight scenes...

They're all cool, but the baddest mother to ever walk the planet is Sonny Chiba!! All the other guys do their thing no doubt, but sonny was the absolute first to rip out your throat, take out your eyes, break both your arms, knock your teeth out, snatch your genitals completely off, and then take your girlfriend and dare you to do anything about it!

this man would just plain kick your _ _ _ ! No fancy moves, no flying through the air, none of that stuff, just his foot knee deep in your _ _ _!

His fighting is so brutal that he is the very first martial artist to get an X rating for the violence in his movies!

You can have all the others, but as for me, I'll take my man Sonny Chiba, the baddest mother around! If you don't know, you better ask somebody!!

To be fair, comparing the filmograhies of Bruce to those of Jackie, Sonny, and Jet would be the same if you put Bradon Lee in there....Bruce only made 4 films in his short life, compared to the many films that these guys made. Of course, they would be better actors since they had quite a lot of time to improve their acting skills...who could say what Bruce would have become had he lived.

I would say that Jackie is the better actor of these choices.

Actually, I'd have to disagree. The only one on the poll that can't act to save his life is Bruce Lee. Jet Li has a limited range of roles that he could fill but when he plays the roles that do suit him he excels. Jackie Chan probably has the best credentials of all of them having studied at the Peking Opera School. As for Sonny Chiba, well not many people know how cool that man is.

It's a hard pick between Jackie Chan and Sonny Chiba though. I'd have to choose Jackie Chan as he knows how to entertain with his movies rather than just act. His choreographing and directing of martial arts movies did change the way a lot of action was filmed in HK/China.

...but in terms of acting and sheer entertainment, it's hands down Jackie Chan. that man has done SOOO many great fight sequences and stunts. Bruce Lee was at a disadvantage because he was one of the first to figure out what works on screen as far as fighting is concerned, so Jackie Chan ran with the ball and developed some of the best fight scenes you'll ever see. if you go back and ask martial arts movie fans what their top 3 favorite fight scenes were.....it's almost gauranteed at LEAST 1 will be from a Jackie Chan movie. not everyone will list a Bruce Lee, Jet Li, or Sonny Chiba fight scene in their top 3.

so Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Sonny Chiba....ya'll get your props for the great stuff you guys did, but i have to give it to Jackie Chan.

he's a hell of a lot funnier than the other guys too...
