I love the series. It went from being an actual superhero comic series to a spoof of comic series (see the one with Marvey comics), but it's often very funny and it's worth getting.

You can also get a majority, if not all, of the back issues from the website.

Unfortunately the comic often tends to be late because Erik Larsen both writes and draws it.

Larsen is sick right now, thus the delays. he usually can crank a book out pretty fast....so that is not why dragon is late. dragons numbers are more than likely , extremely low. i doubt erik makes much, if any money on the book. he does it out of love for the characters. he often has to re-solicit in an attempt to get higher orders. I have been in the comic field for 15+ years, so this stuff is common to me.

Oh. Well then a hearty get well soon to Erik Larsen. My comic book store stiffed me on Savage Dragon #119 so I'm still trying to find it for cheaper than from the website, but I'll probably just get it off the website.

I can highly recommend the series till issue #75.
Excellent, my fav. ever.
After no. 75 it got quite boring though.
Just my opinion.

I used to read it a lot. I missed a few issues once and when I started reading again, Dragon was in an alternate dimension, then I missed a few more issues and he was hanging around with some little girl and one of his girlfriends that I thought was dead ... I just got confused and gave up on it.

Here's what happened: The Covenant of the Sword used a Freak with shape shifting powers to replace Dragon's girlfriend (the white blonde one) at the wedding. That replacement was killed, and Dragon was now the father of her daughter.

Flash forward a bit and Dragon kills a being named Overlord, which prevents certain events from happening, and thus puts Dragon in the Savage World run by Overlord. Savage beats him, Earth is free, there is much rejoicing.

Jennifer Murphy (the blonde white girlfriend) is alive on this Earth and she and Dragon get married.

Not a good summary, but you should try to find the back issues and keep reading.

Well, aside from being a hard ass, he has a healing factor that allows him to adapt and therefore be immune to villains super powers.

That's about it.

He still gets his ass handed to him.

i got the first four trades this week, and it's pretty good.
it's supposed to parody many of marvel's heroes, as erik worked for them before helping found image.
the trades are the way to go, because there's tons of extra materials.
cheesy, but pretty enjoyable overall.

I can't believe there wasn't a Savage Dragon thread!

Eric Larsen has been writing and drawing this puppy for 115 issues straight. He's the only one of the original Image creators to not PUNK OUT and abandon their creations, or sub-lease them to other creators, or buy million dollar baseballs. The man also deserves some credit for preserving the "old school" comics vibe that's returning to the comic scene in books like Invincible. Savage Dragon has always been 100% good clean(well not always clean) American comics fun.

Glad to see he's become Image's publisher.

I really need to get around to reading more Savage Dragon. I have passing memories of reading some Savage Dragon years ago, but meh. Got so much to catch up on. :(

There are around 15 trades that collect all the issues to date I think.

Savage Dragon would probably benefit from a re-boot. Starting with Issue 1 would gather alot of fans, but I don't see Eric doing that. I think he's on a mission to single-handedly create the longest running comic done by one creator.

Larsen is the hardest working man in comics.

I used to pick up this comic for a while but then just drifted away. I was really enjoying it. I dropped out at about #100. Has anyone else been reading it recently and thinks it's still any good.

I've been looking at the issue write ups at Larsen's site and have no idea how to take the election and upcoming weapons of mass destruction storylines. Anyone?

I love the Savage Dragon. Its just a really fun read. The melodrama doesn't overshadow the action. Fun subplots, great action scenes. I think it has lost some steam over the last couple years, but still very enjoyable.

Ok so seriously, does anyone read this? I was at a convention this weekend and picked up the first TPB for 5 bucks. I got it because I really liked the cartoon when I was younger, but I read it and actually liked the comic as well.
So I ask again, is it any good? I mean other than the first three issues?
It's been running for a decade or so now, so I guess somebody is buying it, but I never hear about anyone picking it up. I know Image is the number 3 comic company right now, behind DC and Marvel, so Larsen has to be moderately talented.

I guess what I'm asking is, what do ya'll think?

Great comic but the sales are relatively small despite it's longevity. There once was a problem where the monthly issues didn't come out for almost a year or something back in 2005. So there's this huge gap. I recommend it. People die and don't come back. It's funny, mellow, and in depth with much of the art.
