Or, perhaps, a more intellectual pursuit? Denise Di Nova, WB producer and professional Crazy Biyatch(tm) has done an interview (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/527/527604p1.html) with IGN Filmforce on Crapwoman, I'm sorry, Catwoman (In Name Only, or CINO).

Her comments are in quotes, mine are not. IGNFF's comments are marked as such.

I think being French, [Pitof, the director of Catwoman] sort of had a bit of a distance from the whole – I shouldn't say distance. He had a kind of respect for American pop culture that sometimes foreigners have, to a greater degree than we have ourselves.

Because if there's one thing the French are known for, it's their great respect for American culture!

Really, from when I saw what a powerful icon the Catwoman character was in Batman Returns and what strong reactions – you know, Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal of the character, and just the archetype of the character – what strong reactions Catwoman got from both men and women, I just felt that she deserved to have her own film that was not a sequel to Batman Returns, and not a movie where she was a secondary character but where we really gave her the time she was due and really had an origin story and delved into her as a lead character. I just felt that it was such a rich, complex character and I also felt like it was time, just really in the last couple years, it's really time to have this kind of a female superhero.

So, Michelle Pfeiffer was SO GOOD and people loved her SO MUCH... that the sequel will have nothing to do with her?

Also what's something different is that Catwoman is sort of neither hero nor villain, she's an anti-hero and she's a very complex character. So, I thought, I loved Batman, I loved Spider-Man, I love all these characters, but Catwoman is really different from any other one.

Also what's something different is that CINO is sort of neither classy nor sexy, she's a **** and she's a very complex ****. So, I thought, I wanted to rip-off Batman, I wanted to rip-off Spider-Man, those characters made a lot of money, but Catwoman is a lot worse then any other one.

I feel like she is the most humanistic, the most relatable of these characters. I think also she represents something really fascinating about women, that's very unique to women, that kind of pull and tug, you know, between "am I a good girl, am I a bad girl? Do I fulfill society's expectations, or do I follow my own desires?" You know, I think women struggle with it in their own way.

So mousy graphic artists (who look like Halle Berry) that are resurrected by ancient Egyptian Gods, get off on scratching their legs up, steal lots of stuff, and wear incredibly skanky outfits are the most relatable characters? Funny, I thought Peter Parker was more relatable. And is she saying that MEN never have a problem with conforming to society's expectations?

I think men are fascinated by her because she's so comfortable with her sexuality and she's so independent, confident. I think she's just a really, really complex character.

Independent, confident women do not need to whore themselves out in skanky outfits. They know they look good in, say, yellow jumpsuits (The Bride in Kill Bill) or jeans and T-shirts. This is also the second time Di Nova has mentioned the character being complex. Sorry, lady. Just because you say it doesn't make it so.

Well, you know, we had a real challenge with Catwoman because as you know fans of these comics are very into being true to the comics. The challenge that we had with Catwoman is there are 12 versions of Catwoman. She was a prostitute, she was a jewel thief, she was an orphan, runaway street girl, there were a lot of versions of her.

Lies! Deception! I thought there were nine Catwomans? It looks like Di Nova is falling apart on the stand. C'mon, Matlock, make her admit to murdering Selina Kyle!

So, unlike Spider-Man or Batman where there's a pretty clear origin story and pretty clear rules to follow, there are many versions of Catwoman. I mean, her costume ranged from a dress with a cape to a garter belt.

You're confusing costumes with origins. You really shouldn't. *****.

She's just all over the map.

Can you see the respect and admiration she has for the comic book character?

So, what we tried to do was sort of look at all these things and stay true to the essence of the character that was consistent throughout all these versions.

I think people got a kick out of the cats breathing into Michelle Pfeiffer. It was a great image that Tim Burton invented, and so we wanted to sort of say like, "That's cool, but we never see in Batman Returns how that worked, so let's do that this time."

We aren't half as smart as Burton and he put rocket-launching penguins in the movie. So we're going to add a supernatural edge to the character that was only VERY SOFTLY implied in the original because superpowers sell and let us have lots of CGI.

The thing that I found confusing – there were two things that I found confusing, by some of the online reaction, was when we got criticism for the costume being too sexy, which I find completely mystifying, because Catwoman is about being sexy, and Halle Berry is extremely sexy and I'm sort of like, "Well, this is a bad thing? What's wrong with her being sexy?"

Nothing. But she's not sexy, she's very, very much a skanky whore. And I thought Catwoman was about being independent and confident and empowered, not about comforming to a male vision of what beauty is.

The other is that we didn't stick to the – they felt that we weren't true enough to the comic. But, in response to that I would like to say, "Which version would you have me be true to?" I think we changed her name from Selina Kyle, but that's because part of our Catwoman mythology is that any woman could become Catwoman.

She really doesn't get it, does she? Look at the word in bold. See it? We don't want YOUR version, we want the comics version (I'd settle for a GOOD version).

Any woman out there could become a Catwoman, based on our mythology, which I think makes her a much more relatable character. We did take that dramatic license. To make her Selina Kyle would mean that we would have to do a sequel to Batman Returns, with that character, because that's where she originated.

Because, as WB well knows, you can't ever ignore the previous films in a series and have a fresh start.

Also, I felt that we were free to create our Catwoman because obviously all the comic artists and comic creators felt free to change her back story 11 times.

Comics creators have also given Daredevil the Trial of the Incredible Hulk costume, Elektra the black leather costume, the Scarlet Spider, and Superman Electric.You're supposed to IGNORE the bad stuff and ADAPT the good stuff.

I didn't want it to look like just another kind of mainstream, popcorn, summer movie. I wanted it to have a beauty and a style and to sort of transcend the genre a little bit, and have it be more stylish and sophisticated than the average movie.

Well, you failed. Miserably. She's trying to make an action film (complete with a edutainment message) instead of an action MOVIE. She's ended up with a BAD movie.

There's no reference to Batman in the final film. I think part of it is that Chris Nolan is shooting Batman right now. He's in the market place, he's in the world actively. There were comics, there were stories about Catwoman that did not involve Batman.

I would love suggestions, because so many have been used already or they don't really make sense for Catwoman. So, I'm actually in the process of researching that. If anybody has an idea, I would love to hear it.

I've got some ideas alright, but trust me, you DON'T want to hear them. They involve a quarantine of France, an execution of all WB executives starting with Jon Peters and moving up (everyone involved in Batman Begins will be spared, otherwise, NO PRISONERS!), and Halle Berry going back to being a five-dollar whore while Gina Torres takes over as Ororo Munroe/Storm in X3.

IGNFF: One thing I am kind of curious about, that [first] Catwoman trailer only came out in May. Usually the studios start hyping their summer releases almost a year ahead of time nowadays.

I'll tell you, there's a very simple answer to that. We only started shooting – the schedule of this movie has been pretty crazy in that when we first started we thought we were going to be even a 2005 release. But, then when we cast Halle Berry and things started to seem like they were really great and the studio had the idea to make it a summer release in July, which really accelerated all of our post-production. In terms of getting the teaser out, because of our schedule, unlike other films, we didn't have any special effects ready. In fact, many of our special effects aren't going to be ready until people are going to see them – our trailer will be on Spider-Man 2. If you notice, the teaser you saw of Halle as Catwoman, didn't really have any of our fabulous effects in it, because they just weren't ready. So, we figured in terms of our materials … we had our teaser out, and when we have our full-length trailer it will be on Spider-Man 2 and Harry Potter, probably the two biggest films you could ever get on, that would be our exposure. But, we had to sort of hold them until those dates so we would have more of our effects.

I went to see Spider-Man 2 [a few days ago]. No CINO trailer. Di Nova is lying through her teeth and theaters are pulling that piece of celluloid vomit off the masterpiece that is Spider-Man 2 as one would pull a leech off a human leg. Also, why would you advertise a movie with THAT kind of costume in a kiddie movie (no, Quentin, NOT Spider-Man)? The only place CINO deserves to be advertised is with Showgirls.

"The Eeeeeeevil cosmetic is a cream called Beau-line which causes the user to become perfectly beautiful [editor's note, think Death Becomes Her], but makes flesh hard as stone (puns not intended), and the wearer can no longer feel anything. They become invulnerable and extremely strong.

"Should the user stop using Beau-line, they deteriorate into a zombie-looking creature with the flesh hanging off their face, etc. You cannot stop using it once you start, and so Hedare is planning on taking over the female half of the human race, basically."

This is extremely flawed for several reasons. First, you would assume women would be pissed off at being insensitive suddenly. So now Hedare has several invulnerable, super-strong women gunning for her.

What's to stop the government, as soon as they find out what's going on, from shutting down Hedare and rationing out Beau-line to the victims until they find a cure?

I've been told by Mnemosync that cosmetics don't need to get FDA approval. Still, I imagine Hedare would have to contend with a giant class-action lawsuit. After all, what's the point of having a beautiful body if you can't enjoy sex?
In Mnemo's words, "Beau-line would be classified as iatrogenic: a substance that in and of itself causes a disease-state to occur where none was previously. Not good."

How could she take over the entire female race? It's almost impossible to get a monopoly in the first place, no matter how good you make women look. Unless women are so shallow that they're willing to try a dangerous drug (so much for the empowered, 21st century womyn.).

Once women started becoming statues, wouldn't others stop buying it? Is there a time delay or something? How can she expect to get everyone 'hooked' before the harmful effects become apparent?

Seriously, this is one of the worst evil plots ever. She would have been better off constructing a laser to make everyone in the world go-go dance.

Garian Silver brings up another good point. Hedare ALREADY runs a huge cosmetics empire. Why risk (no, make that GUARANTEE) the aforementioned super-class-action-lawsuit to make more money when she's already filthy stinking rich? Wouldn't it be more sensible to find a way to take the addictive effects off the drugs (or at least make them more subtle. No insensitivity, no flesh falling off, just something like nicotine)? What difference does it make for a huge cosmetic empire if ONE of their creams is bought more often than others?

After another plot hole was revealed (the effect is irreversible, yet CINO's friend Sally manages to show up healthy and hale after being hospitalized by it), Minyak put in a few points.

Going along with that. . . If this thing acts on women, wouldn't there be two other obvious drawbacks: 1) Women's biochemistry would react differently and would probably also react differently depending on dosage, and 2) Any competing company, govt agency, etc., could easily obtain a sample, deduce its chemical composition, and then use this research to create an antidote.

Not to mention that contamination of products tends to scare consumers resulting in an overall downturn in consumption so Hedare would actually lose more $$$. (I'm thinking the Tylenol/poison scare a few years back.)

So, why all these effects? So that it can be revealed that Sharon STONE is taking Beau-Line as well and can put up a big fight with CINO at the end. But she's really attracted to CINO, because she's a lesbian (probably because her husband's a jerk who has sex with other models and starred in The Matrix Reloaded).

Meanwhile, another villain who only stands around and looks threatening the whole movie (although it would be amusing for Daredevil to swing in and 'kinkily' hit on Kingpin...) considers a replacement enforcer.

Guyver,X, Corp, feel free to answer this question, anyone who knows the answer. Awhile back in the infinity crusades and wars and all, a earth hero had one of the gems but I could never find the issue where they revealed the hero. Do you know who it was? my gut say Vision cuase he isn't human and he wouldn't be corrupted by it's power. Who was it really or was it ever revealed?

No.........remember, there was this theory that an earth hero had one of the gems. The 5th gem and I Can't even remember the name of it. THanos had one, the Watch had the others and it was a theory of Thanos that a Earth hero had one. It was in the Infinity crusade, the Infinity watch and a couple of SS comics.

Guyver is right -- Thanos had the reality gem. Not Vision, not Dr. Strange, not any earth hero. Thanos. The whereabouts of all the other gems were well known.

If Thanos was speculating that one of Earths heros had it, then all that means is either (1) He was lying, (2) the writer didn't know Thanos was the one who had the gem, or (3) it hadn't yet been decided who had the gem. I'm not sure at what point the writers decided Thanos was the gem's mystery guardian.

All Adam Warlock ever said was that he'd given the gem to a secret guardian. It was just speculation that the gem might have belonged to one of earths heros.

Incidently, I don't have the Infinity War issue where Thanos produces the gem in front of me (though I do own it), but what I remember is that Thanos shows up with the gem, and some of the other heros say something like "The reality gem? Where did he get it? Unless the secret guardian is among the heros currently present." Of course, this reality gem Thanos used in that issue turned out to be a fake anyway, as revealed in Infinity War #6. But Thanos was later revealed as the secret guardian, so he could have used the real one if he wanted.

They're both pretty busy with the DTL over in comics right now (as am I). I'm guessing that's why there isn't a lot of scanning being done right now. They're actually doing the best in the whole tournament. It requires research and discussion, etc. It does take quite a bit of time.

Yup, this is a cool thread. Yummy, Ben R died a hero, helping to save the Daily Bugle from the Green Goblin and then taking the GG's glider in the back for Peter. He then dissolved, proving that Peter was the real deal all along (at least I hope so). I don't remember the exact comic he died in, either PPSM #75 or Spider-Man #75, something like that.

Okay now I just heard about these and I have no idea what issues they are but I'll mention them nonetheless. I heard about two issues of What If, toward the end I think, "What If Legion had killed Magneto" and "What if the Age of Apocalypse Had Not Ended". I'm just really curious about these and would like to see some pics from them if possible. If not then that's cool.

Alan Moore actually took a bunch of different characters and put them on Earth-238, mostly obscure older British ones. MiracleMan was originally MarvelMan but there were name problems of course so he called him MiracleMan. Or they were calling him MiracleMan a while before anyhow, I forget.

Superman #175, the 86' onwards series of course. Luthor had his hands in the whole deal. He was responsible for him coming back to life, and after he was beaten he traded him off to Darkseid.

Yeah I know that Luthor had his body and arranged for his escape and I saw that he gave it to darkseid once he'd been beaten by superman. But I saw no evidence that they rebuilt him. Hell they don't even have the technology to clone superman let alone rebuild Doomsdays body. Plus Dooms now has sentience and flame breathe so he had to have evolved that. I personally think it was the same as when they got his body the first time. They just chained him up and he brought himself back to life

Doomsday really hasn't evolved much farther. I mean, in all actuality he's taken some steps backwards. Hopefully someday a good story will be written where all the crap is washed away, good excuses are given and we get the good ol' DD back.

What I meant is that couldn't clone supes properly (bizarro), hence why a human hybred was made (superboy). Kryptonian Dna is supposedly too advanced. So dooms Dna must look even more ridiculous. Theres no way that same science could rebild his body and give him intelligence. Of course it would have helped if DC actually EXPLAINED how the hell luthor gotr his body in the damn first place.The whole domsday rex story was a complete shambles. Crappy writer:mad:

Doomsday is 250,000 some odd years old. I think Krypton made some serious advances in that time. They themselves and their science.

Who says they completley rebuilt his body themselves? They could of just given him somewhere to start. I just don't see how it's possible for him to come back from being practially atomized. It was said after that energy being killed DD a long time ago that if they had destroyed his body then it would of all been over with. More proof...

Year One was actually pretty cool, the art could of been better though. He has a stand off with Darkseid, after he kills one of Darkseid's best buddies, bad. He kills hundreds of GL's, and it takes a bunch of The Guardians of Oa to get him off their planet. Even then one of them needs to sacrifice themselves I believe. I'm going to go and read it again right now, I need to check something in it.

It was probably more of an insult then anything. They put him in bonds and a suit... Some civilizations probably look at that as a way to prevent ones soul from travelling on after death, torment after death and what not.

I don't think they were that, that advanced. They had futuristic cars and buildings but they weren't that advanced. Kind of reminded me of Krypton, probably less so then them.
