I've watched the trailer maybe a 100 times for the sequel
and im super excited just like anyone else is. Obviously
a good plot and acting is whats going to make this movie
sky rocket but being the geek I am not only do I want
amazing action scenes but incredible feats as well.

Yes, Thor in the Marvel Movie-Verse has had considerably
impressive feats, and for the most part pretty consistent.
He's probably had the best consistent showings of all
Superhero movie adapations and been the most durable/powerful.

I'd just like to see more and here's a list.

1) Fast combat - Thor. Here is a quy quick enough to deflect
bullets. I would really like to see some combat scenes
where he moves at warp speed taking on groups of warriors
virtually simultaneously. I'd also like to see lightning
quick h2h/weapon battles. The Jotunheim scene was wicked,
lets turn it up a couple notches against faster foes.

2) Strength feats without the hammer. Lift up a continent
with little effort. Body slam an enemy and make a crater
from the impact. Redirect an asteroid. Hell do all three.

3) God blast. A few of them. More lightning with less
effort. Lightning storms, tornados, hail storms with
hail the size of meteors.

oh and yes this would take a bunch of CGI. Well... Thor
is a flying mystical magic weilding weather manipulator
with the durability of Doomsday. Yes, CGI will be involved.

what would you like to see the most?

Surprise! Dying Light Is A New Free-Running First-Person Zombie Game

Here's the first big-budget big game surprise of the E3 season: Dying Light, a first-person free-running zombie survival game from Techland, the makers of Dead Island, slated for current and next-gen consoles (and PC) for 2014. Think: Mirror's Edge with the undead.

The game was featured last week at a special pre-E3 showcase for select gaming press held by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, publishers of the Batman: Arkham and Scribblenauts games. I was there. I saw the game. It presents really well. Or at least it did—and probably will again. There are two issues with it. But hold those thoughts.

The game takes place, as so many do, in a world beset with zombies. It looks like Rio, but they're not specifying. Familiar set-up, novel execution: you play in the first-person perspective through a day-night cycle. By day, you prowl the open-world, scavenging for supplies, going on missions and side-missions, using weapons—I mostly saw melee weapons—in order to fight zombies and other survivors. (There will be guns, too.) But at night, zombies become more powerful and aggressive. You pretty much just run.

All of this happens with the added twist that you can do parkour across rooftops. It's a pity WBIE hasn't released video of the game yet, because that's the "wow" element here—the experience of running from zombies across rooftops with the grace and speed not seen since DICE's beloved free-running game Mirror's Edge is the thing that makes it special.

In the demo I saw, played live presumably on PC, the game's protagonist first ran across rooftops with a bat in hand, bashing zombies, climbing poles, jumping into a house to find a girl who was crying and hiding in a closet. The player switched to an axe and then a machete. There's a weapons-crafting system, so our guy then made himself an electrified machete, used that and then kicked some zombies, to boot. (Pun intended. Deal with it.)

At one point, the player came upon some other people who had beat our guy to some supplies. Our guy put his hands up and backed off.

The sun began to set and things became more ominous. More zombies seemed to shuffle among the streets. We had to hide. It turns out that our character is himself infected with a zombie virus and that enables him to see the more powerful zombies out there. We spotted one, but it gave chase. This led to the most interesting moment in the demo—one that hopefully wasn't canned, because, if it's dynamic, well, this could be great: the player ran from a crowd of these zombies, looking back with what was presumably the tap of a look-behind button; he got far enough ahead and ran into a building; they missed that and ran past, he ran around them, confounding their stupid zombie brains, defying their deadly flocking, all while in a high-speed run.

In theory, you can do all of this in four-player co-op, too.

Asked if the developers at the Polish studio Techland were apprehensive about making yet another zombie game, one of the game's developers, a man who goes by the name Blaze, said, "That would only be the case if we didn't believe in the originality of the game. I think the day-night cycle, the way the world lives by it—and the complete freedom to explore it based on the free-running—are, I think, defining elements for the game. [They are] not the only important parts, but definitely the parts we used to set it up as something different."

The game is being built primarily for the next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles and PC, he added, though it'll be downscaled in some undefined way for PS3 and Xbox 360. It's being created by Techland's original Dead Island team. A different team made the Dead Island sequel Riptide.

But there are two issues. One is that the timing of this game's announcement is a little awkward, as, given the bloody events in London yesterday, this suddenly doesn't feel like a very appealing fantasy:

The other issues, let's be frank, is the developer. Techland is a studio of great ambition and, recently, less great execution. The recent Riptide was ripped as a technological and technical disappointment. The studio, in general, is one of big ideas that don't seem to be consistently delivered. I asked Blaze about this, pointing out that others, like me, might be torn between wanting to be optimistic but feeling skeptical about Techland's rep.

"We are definitely learning all the time and changing the processes," he said. "In this case, putting the best people we have on this with the task of making sure this game is the biggest, best game we ever made, because that’s how we look at it. And getting a partner like Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment—with all the power, capabilities and experience, from consumer research to supporting us on the tech side—this is all geared toward delivering a better game, capital B."

I mentioned that the Fallout/Skyrim people at Bethesda had recently had similar problems. They'd been releasing really buggy games and had changed some processes so that they could better deliver games that ran well. I pressed for some clarity on what Techland was changing so that they could deliver something closer to what they promised.

"There are stories behind every game we can never discuss publicly, because we’re classy," he said, surely aware that I understood that Techland's recent games have come from other publishers than WBIE. "We don't want to blame any circumstances or anyone or anything because ultimately we are responsible and there's no escaping that. But this is a complicated, multi-million dollar business and not everything always goes perfectly. But we are doing all we can to make Dying Light as great a game as it can be."

Dying Light is set for a 2014 release. Keep an eye out for video footage. I initially rolled my eyes at the sight of yet another zombie game, but the free-running really does make this game look special.

(CNN) -- We can't settle iPhone vs. Android or "Star Wars" vs. "Star Trek" for you. But another long-running geek debate was put to rest Tuesday night.

Those short, animated loops that have captivated the Web for decades? They're pronounced like a brand of peanut butter.

Steve Wilhite created the Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF, while working for Compuserve in 1987. On Tuesday, he received a Webby Award for it and delivered his five-word acceptance speech (that's all the Webbys allow) by flashing a GIF on the big screens at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York.

And, in a flash, it all became clear:

"It's pronounced JIF, not GIF."

Of course, in the grand tradition of heated debate, a flat statement of fact by the creator wasn't enough to sway some partisans. On Twitter, "GIF" became a trending topic as some folks pushed back.

"Graphics Interchange Format. Graphics. Not Jraphics. #GIF #hardg," wrote Web designer Dan Cederholm.

"So instead of GIF, we've got to say JIF? YEAH RIGHT," chimed in October Jones, creator of the "Texts From Dog" Tumblr and book. "And I suppose those animals with long necks are called 'JIRAFFES.'"

And, of course, the peanut butter brand was getting lots of free publicity along the way. The always amusing HAL 9000 account (yes, somebody tweets as the robot from "2001") posted an "animated JIF" -- which is to say, a swirling, animated jar of the tasty, high-protein spread.

So, it's perhaps no surprise that the company got into the act itself. Wednesday afternoon, the company took to Twitter with a post reading, "It's pronounced Jif® ." The tweet linked to, what else, a multi-colored GIF flashing the same phrase.

Animated GIFs were a staple of the early Internet. Remember The Dancing Baby? That's a GIF.

They fell out of favor as more advanced graphics technology emerged. But in the past couple of years, the Web has remembered how much fun it is to watch ridiculous things happen over and over again.

Appropriately, Wilhite received his Lifetime Achievement Award from David Karp, the founder of Tumblr, one prominent place where GIFs found a new fanbase.

In less publicized interviews, Wilhite had argued for the soft-G pronunciation for years. So, will a widely covered "speech" in front of some of the Web's most influential folks finally be the turning point?

Maybe not.

Last month, no less an authority than the White House posted an image on its new Tumblr feed advocating for the hard-G. And the Oxford English Dictionary says both pronunciations are acceptable.

So, here's wishing Mr. Wilhite "Jood Luck."

Was it all for real or was it all fake like that guy said to William near the end of the movie? One thing that I cannot buy is when that prostitute's friend said that her bud got HIV from William. His character never got around to nailing her, I think what happened was that her friend made a semi lie up and blamed it on William for god knows why, actually I think the guy was lying about the gathering and think he is hiding some damaging stuff. If I am wrong, then what was being hidden?

So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Helms).

In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad’s latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the "Millers" are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.
Dark Horse Comics' Timecop is heading back the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Universal Pictures is currently developing the property for a franchise reboot with Marc Shmuger and Tom McNulty producing.

"What a dream: to travel through time," Dark Horse's official description of the series reads, "You can change the past, the future, your future. Then imagine Max Walker, one of the Time Enforcement Commission's toughest and most extreme cops. But as nasty as Walker's methods are, even he may not be able to stop a nefarious plot to destroy the future as we know it."

Originally published as a three-part story in the "Dark Horse Comics" anthology series, Timecop was adapted for the big screen in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead. That feature version featured a script by the character's creators, Dark Horse President Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden.

ComingSoon.net spoke with Verheiden about the potential for a Timecop reboot back in 2011.

"Boy, I'd love that," he said of a new film. "I like that rumor. 'Timecop' was a fun project and one of my earlier movies. It was fun to do then and I really think there's a franchise there, whether its TV or film. It would be great to bring it back. I think we should get that rumor going!"

The first Timecop film received a brief television spinoff in 1997 and a direct-to-video sequel Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision in 2003.

Roy Gower, Head of Film at Cineworld, said: "Superhero films are huge right now. The recent success of films like The Dark Knight, Iron Man and The Avengers has re-kindled our love for comic book heroes and whetted our appetites for the latest superhero installment, Man of Steel, released on June 14."
Billy Crystal-Starring Comedy From Matt Nix & Larry Charles Lands At FX With Pilot Order
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

The hot cable comedy project, which has Billy Crystal attached to star, co-write and executive produce, Burn Notice creator Matt Nix co-writing/executive producing and Curb Your Enthusiasm and Borat‘s Larry Charles directing/co-writing and executive producing, has been picked up by FX with a pilot order. Titled The Comedians, the single-camera comedy, which was taken out earlier this month, is produced by Fox TV Studios, marking the first FX pilot to not come out of the in-house FX Prods.

In The Comedians, Crystal plays a superstar veteran comedian who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comedian for a late-night comedy sketch show. It is based on the 2004 Swedish series Ulveson And Herngren, starring comedians Felix Herngren and Johan Ulveson as they put together a sketch program. Charles is set to direct the pilot, which is said to be in the documentary style he perfected on another cable comedy starring a veteran stand-up comedian, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Charles, Nix and Crystal are co-writing with comedy writer-producer Ben Wexler, who previously worked with Nix on Nix’s Fox dramedy The Good Guys. The four executive produce with Nix’s manager, producer Mikkel Bondesen and Henrik Bastin, both of Fabrik Entertainment (formerly Fuse), which, like Nix, is under a deal at FtvS. Carl Molinder and John Nordling of Stockholm-based Efti AB, which is behind the original series, also executive produce. Fabrik’s Kristen Campo co-exec produces. “It truly is an honor to be in business with Billy Crystal and Larry Charles, two of the all-time greats in comedy,” said FX president John Landgraf. “We have also wanted for some time to be in business with Matt Nix, who has done such an amazing job creating and running Burn Notice.” Added FtvS president David Madden, “We also remain gratified to be in business with Fabrik – Mikkel, Henrik and Kristen somehow continue to unearth incredibly special formats that seem to translate and resonate for U.S. audiences.” It hasn’t been specified, but The Comedians will likely be for the main FX channel vs. upstart FXX.

This marks Crystal’s return to TV. After stints on Soap, his own variety show and Saturday Night Live in the 1980s, Crystal has been focused on features, only returning to TV to host the Oscars and to direct and executive produce the HBO baseball movie 61*. Wexler most recently worked on NBC’s Community. Charles most recently directed ABC’s comedy pilot Mixology, which was picked up to series. Crystal next reprises his role in the voice cast of Pixar’s Monsters Inc. prequel. Crystal is with CAA, Charles and Nix are with WME.

Here is a “best of” reel for Ulveson And Herngren for those who understand Swedish.

Given that this isn't part of some ridiculous 10-90 deal, I'm excited. FX knows comedy (minus Charlie Sheen).

*Spoilers* Problems caused by the MCU

Now I just want to start by saying I liked this movie, and I am simply trying to explain how the MCU has lead to the Iron Man series inability to live up to the initial installment.

When Iron Man came out back in 08, one reason people connected with it so well was because, despite some superheroics, for the most part it was rather grounded. The superpowers in the films universe were high tech and the whole thing seemed like it could happen. S.H.I.E.L.D. was a bunch of guys in black suits, Tony had a long trial and error process with the suits, people reacted accordingly. I remember sitting in the theater and thinking that it was like they were trying to do what Nolan had done (at this point) with Batman Begins, but in a more fun adventurous way.

Now the franchize was in a position to inevitably have to connect with the likes of the magic universe of Thor and the giant green monster the Hulk, and this sense of realism would have be adjusted accordingly. One of the big things I noticed immediately with Iron Man 2, was not only how much it was setting up with cameos, but with tone. Things were much larger in scale and much more over the top, right from the beginning with the completely ridiculous in scale Stark Expo. Of coarse they had to change the dynamics of the world in order for us to believe that Thor could coexist with Iron Man, but it has been a bit detrimental to the series.

No longer is there a technopunk kind of vibe on the screen but rather just that of another flashy comic book movie. It has become more difficult to believe whats going on, hence it has become more difficult to as effectively connect with the hero. Anyway am I alone in this observation or has anyone else come to a similar conclusion as well?
