A secret organization that was introduced in the 2010 SHIELD comic series and whose roots go back to ancient Egypt, along with another organization called the Brotherhood of the Spear, which became HYDRA. I'm thinking this is that shadow-y council we saw in The Avengers and that we'll see again and likely learn more about in Cap 2. The writers said we would learn more about the history of the MCU in Cap 2, I'm guessing this is a part of that.

I mean I assume S.W.O.R.D. was tracking Thor and would most likely reverse engineering the Chitauri tech. But I was wonder besides Abigail Brand who could S.W.O.R.D use as most the characters associated with them are with FOX.

As someone who was unfamiliar with the Guardians of the Galaxy characters & storylines, I must say that the more I hear about this project the more excited I become to see it on the big screen. I thought that this would be a good place to have a dialogue about the movie without resurrecting a thread that was almost a year old.

So what does everyone think about this project? I think it will be extremely interesting to see how it ties into the current MCU - there's already been talk that it will have some kind of tie-in to The Avengers 2. Where do you think we'll see the project go?

And finally, I wanted to speak on the cast which is already shaping up nicely. We've already got the following characters casted (from IMDB):

Chris Pratt - Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Zoe Saldana - Gamora
Dave Bautista - Drax the Destroyer
Lee Pace - Basil Sandhurst/The Controller
Michael Rooker - Yondu

Should be interesting to see who they get to fill out the rest of the cast too... there's been rumors of David Tennant as the voice of Rocket Raccoon.

Who else would you like to see attached to the film?

Report: Marvel Phase 2 Won’t Include Hawkeye, Renner May Be Recast

Following the release of Marvel’s The Avengers, Jeremy Renner expressed discontent with his character’s role in the film.
“For 90 percent of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play,” Comic Book Movie quotes Renner as saying. “It’s kind of a vacancy. [He's] not even a bad guy, because there’s not really a consciousness to him. To take away who that character is and just have him be this robot, essentially, and have him be this minion for evil that Loki uses … I was limited, you know what I mean? I was a terminator in a way. Fun stunts. But is there any sort of emotional content or thought process? No.”
Up until now, those remarks hadn’t been given a whole lot of thought, but now CBM’s The Daily Superhero is reporting that Hawkeye is not slated to appear in any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase II films, with the possible exception of the as-yet-untitled Avengers sequel–and that by the time he shows up on the big screen again, the character might be completely recast.
“The source hints that there’s the tiniest chance Renner will reprise his role in The Avengers Sequel but the source also said there is a greater chance Hawkeye will be recast (like War Machine and the Hulk have been recast before). Finally, the source said if Hawkeye is to be recast there is a solid chance he could be incorporated into the new television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a primary character,” the report states.
Ironically, the changes come at a time when Hawkeye–a character who often has some trouble gaining a foothold in the comics–has the most critically-acclaimed title at Marvel, netting a number of Eisner nominations this year.

here's the original interview http://herocomplex.latimes.com/movie...n-and-more/#/0

One of the reasons I love, and I mean LOVE all these movies by Marvel Studios was because what they were doing with they're characters on a paper, the way they were supposed to be made on the big screen!

Sony and Fox started that same route with both Spider-man and X-Men. Keyword: "started". Of course, until Sony released Spider-man 3 where they basically ruined one of the best Spidey villains in Venom and even fogged up Pete's own origin story. And then Fox with their X-Men 3 where they basically destroyed and killed off Cyclops, Professor X, and ruined Phoenix. Let's not even go to where both studios took Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider.

Comic book fans were alienated and have since been calling for the day both Sony and Fox would give back those rights to Marvel.

Seven Marvel Studio movies and it's still been a beautiful formula...

Until... Iron Man 3 came.

The Mandarin twist was something I'd have expect to see from Sony or Fox... but not Marvel Studios.

Kevin Feige, the biggest commandment of translating a comic book into the big screen is very simple: DO - NOT - ALIENATE - YOUR - FANS - THAT - HAVE - BEEN - READING - YOUR - BOOKS.

This is THE exact reason for the backlash Sony and Fox have been getting after their recent films.

"I think a lot of the fans may not like it if we make this character..." <--- The moment that kind of thought crosses your mind, just stop right there. Don't even think about pulling the trigger, because it's already a mistake.

We understand some changes have to be made to bring some of these characters and stories to make them more relatable to this era, something like Wolverine being 6 foot tall can't be helped, or even Spidey's organic web shooters, and that's because even if they weren't direct from the source material, they still didn't tarnish the integrity of those characters.

It's always about the CHARACTERS.

Feige knew before hand when this whole thing was being discussed about turning the Mandarin into a joke that it was going to cause a lot of controversy and even alienate some fans, but he still did it anyway... why? The twist didn't bring anything much to the story for the casual moviegoers, but it angered a lot of the fans of the book.

IM3 honestly almost felt like a Joe Quesada "One More Day" production, more so than a Kevin Feige one. It even felt more like a Shane Black "Lethal Weapon" movie than it did "The Avengers."

And yes, I've read the thread about how Captain America's quote from the Avengers basically tied the whole meaning of the IM3 film, but the point is, unless you're a philosopher dissecting every meaning of the film, all the fans saw was that of the greatest Iron Man villain basically ruined to the point that it became nothing but a JOKE. Bad enough the Mandarin wasn't a big villain, he got turned into literally a sideshow joke.

Once this trend starts, there's a good chance it's going to keep happening and even be more brazen.

Please Kevin, stay as true to not just your story, but also to your characters, both heroes and villains. Please do not turn these characters into a JOKE, a joke that other film makers in the future may not even bother using because the joke on the screen (that more of the mainstream media gets to see) got bigger than actual character on the book.

Hopefully this kind of thing won't need to happen again.

The best thing about Marvel Studios' movies have always been the fact that their stories and characters are both gratifying to the comic book fans and the general audiences as well.

This is some very interesting stuff. Apparently Joss Whedon's deal with Marvel is worth $100m, RDJ is leading the charge "like a big brother" to get his co-working Avengers paid more, the break even point for The Avengers was $1.1b (wtf lol), and analysts believe Marvel's acquisition of Marvel will have paid for itself in 15 years, far earlier than expected.
