Yeah, it's definitely different, but I kind of prefer a shorter supes. Both with Dean Cain and Cavill, I think it makes them look stockier because of their proportions.

I'm 6'5 so I prefer a taller supes

It's a tricky balance. What may be the ideal height for Supes is not necessarily the ideal height for a plausibly disguised CK.

I don't think Cavill can plausibly pull off that disguise anyway. His jaw is so obvious, glasses or not.

Maybe if he had a beard as Clark...

I don't really mind either way if he is 6'4" or 6'. What bothers me is when filmmakers use really tall people in roles but then shoot the movie in a way that doesn't show this off. If you get a 6'4" actor (and he's wearing boots btw so he's closer to 6'5.5") and a 5'3" actress he should literally tower over her in every scene, instead of putting her on a box in close ups of them together to make her look closer to 5'10". If that's the case get a 5'8"+ actress.

Oh, and I was always a Welling guy for a Superman movie, but I've really warmed up to Cavill as Supes. I think he looks the part no doubt. As far as his size goes, i consider him more of an "athletic" build than a "muscular" build. Definitely looks good in the suit tho, just not really THAT big.

The glasses-as-disguise is problematic. I guess you either embrace the convention or you don’t. But its implausibility shouldn’t be used as license for other ones. For instance, is a 6’7” Supes/CK okay on the grounds that the audience has already accepted glasses... so they’ll accept anything? I think you can push the suspension of disbelief too far.

I thought the disguise was handled visually well in Superman Returns. It worked well as a 'mask' for Superman.

It's just harder to do in this case.

Sure you don't just preffer Cavill's height, because its Cavill's height and you may have a crush on Cavill? :oldrazz:

If everything else about Cavill was exactly the same, his build, his face, voice etc... except he was scaled up to 6'4", you would still be just as big of a fan, and I bet you would be saying 6'4" isn't too tall at all and is in fact the perfect height for Superman. http://forums.superherohype.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Why does everyone keep bringing up 6'4 (because of CR??) when Superman has mostly been and still is listed as 6'3 by DC?! Sheesh!

This is like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon... (make your oun joke here)

Snyder next to Cavill...

http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content...ck-Snyder.jpeg

Snyder next to Adams...
http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/fp/A...mJ2uOumBzl.jpg

Cavill next to Snyder...

Hard to explain this comparison... unless Cavill is kneeling!
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jHXNyPpxLq...h%2Bsnyder.jpg

even if they fudged the scale here, note the difference...

http://towncenterfilms.bravehost.com...970b-800wi.jpg

Snyder would be close to Kevin Pollak's height, Cavill more like S Baldwin at 5-10+.

Baldwin is under 6' even in his bio. 5-10. DelToro is listed as 6-1+

Why is this important?

It isn't... we just don't have any new set pics to discuss!

Cavill will be great.

I have an old Supes "encyclopedia" that lists his official height as 6'2".

I agree with you on that. The disguise was perfect in Superman Returns. The glasses and the hair really did make him look like a totally different person. (Yeah, yeah, it wasn't all flawless) I think Cavill has too many outstanding facial features that make him easy to recognise, even as Clark. With Brandon, for me at least, as Clark his face looked so different, less chiselled. And as Superman it was more.

And even though Brandon Routh is a tall guy, as Clark it wasn't really that noticeable. Some people are actually 6'4" in real life, so Clark wouldn't really stand out being tall. But being smaller as Clark, since he's hunched over a bit, and a bit taller as Superman, because the heels of his boots are a bit puffed up. It makes a difference of about 2 inches.

But having said that, I think Superman should be a bit imposing. He has to stand out (apart from standing out because of his suit, and I still can't get over the new suit) and has to look tall. People look up to him, admire him, etc....

Oh well... we'll have to see in 2013....

That is obviously from Reeve. Since STM he has been used as the Benchmark by the vast majority of people who have never read a sourcebook.

I think the suit will make him stand out enough!

"...that's a bad out-fit...whooo"!

Doing manips of this guy, I think he will do the disguise thing ok. He can be a bit of a chameleon of sorts. Just google him and see the different characters he can take on.

I agree with this too.

If say Superman was 6'4", barefoot with good posture, he could still look a couple inches shorter than that as Clark, and a couple inches taller as Superman.

If you account for Clark slouching, and wearing flat sole shoes with no heel, and Superman standing with good posture and having a normal boot heel and sole, then the perceived difference with Clark and Superman could be as much as 4".

Add to that how his muscular build can be hidden in the suit as well, with his shoulders forward and his chest in, and impossible to see how ripped he is, there would appear to be a big physical difference with Superman and Clark.

Humans have a way of perceiving heroes as even bigger than they really are too. If Clark were to tell someone he was Superman, the first thing they might say is "oh sure, riiiiiiight ok, your face looks a little like his, but you’re not tall enough, nice try Clark haha".

Therefor I don’t think 6’4" is too tall for a barefoot Superman. 6'1" is also still plenty tall enough for an actor to play him.

As for Cavill at 6’1", he likely has a hidden lift in his boots, not to get to specific height, but rather just to look as imposing as possible as Superman. Snyder seems to like his heroes to look imposing too. Cavill wont have to make his back sore by slouching as Clark either.

Re: The Official Costume Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 21

If anyone takes a close look at Cavills foot in the promo shot you can see there is a lift in the boot. It does not jump out as super obvious, but if you look closely you can tell it looks like his heel is lifted up. It won't matter in the movie, because they likely are not going to use any shots that dwell on his feet for any length of time, just evidence than Snyder will be making him look as tall/imposing as possible.

6'3", 6'4"... How big of a difference is that?... Not that much, one measly inch. Still, I'm sure they'll make him imposing enough in the film, but still, as a Superman, Brandon had the better papers. And if Singer had let Brandon become more fit, then he would've been just perfect.

Oh well, what's done is done, no turning back...
