What was all the hoopla about the President not saying..."so help me God..." in his swear in?????? I just saw, and he said it.

*sighs* man people in the news have to make up drama these days I guess.

Re: The 2013 Presidential Inauguration

It is a total waste to have a ceremonial swearing in tomorrow for a second term president. Just do the quiet ceremony in the Blue Room and be done with it. Anything more is pure ego stroking.

Re: The 2013 Presidential Inauguration

Are you talking about the entire ceremony, parade and what not?????

IMO, he deserves the pomp and circumstance of any other 2nd term President.

IMO, the signing the other day of the gun controls laws (of which I agree with them, don't think they will do anything to stop something like what happened before Christmas, but saw no problem with them) with that said, I think the whole campaign speech, hugging children, etc....was vomit inducing...

But a speech tomorrow, with a parade, and the balls......no problem with that, that is a part of our history, and he deserves it as much as any other 2nd term President.

Watching highlights from the Kid's Inaugural Concert.....lots fun had by the kiddos. I commend the First Lady for starting this in 2008, hopefully First Ladies from now on will do the same.

I personally don't think that any second term president should have a swearing in ceremony with parades, parties, etc. Do it for the first term, but for the second, it should be little more than a formality.

I agree with Matt. It's wasting millions on a massive party, and I think especially in these economic times, it borders on bad taste. The first inauguration should stay, but the second is just redundant and superfluous.

Kelly 01-20-2013 02:58 PM

Re: The 2013 Presidential Inauguration

I could see maybe toning it down some....but to those businesses, hotels, transportation etc in Washington D.C. it would be like canceling the Macy's Day Parade in New York City, or New Year's Eve in NYC....THOSE cities get that every year, Washington? every 4 years...it is great for the economy, it has become important in our history, and honestly, wouldn't be a drop in the bucket to what we need to cut in spending. I would rather the President, ACTUALLY TRY AND CUT SPENDING, rather than cut something that in reality, would only be a symbol of cutting the spending.

Marx 01-20-2013 03:22 PM

Re: The 2013 Presidential Inauguration

I agree with Kel. It has long been a part of our history and he should have it just as any other president has. To cancel it all together save for a small ceremony in the blue room would be devastating to those businesses around the area that have come to depend on it.

So he will be inaugurated publicly on MLK Day. That's no coincidence.

I could listen to Beyonce sing the phonebook. I hope her and Kelly were sitting in the back thinking about a collaboration.
