Poll: Should Tony be a Boozer?
 

So should Tony Stark be a booze hound right from the get go, foreshadow it for sequels, or be squeaky clean?
I searched the forums for drunk and alcoholic, so if there's already a poll on this subject how 'bout not pooping your pants?

Dude, Favs already said that Tony wasn't going to be alcohol in the first movie.

Not asking what will be, I'm asking what people would prefer to see. And whether he's a full blown alcholic in the first movie has nothing to do with whether or not he'll be a drinker.
That and the fact that they're in pre-production and nothing is written in stone just yet.

Nah, not til much later. It may alienate a lot of potential fans and parents from the movie. This way, if it's done in a sequel, at least we know it's a sidestory, and not the main story.

I completely get wanting to save it for later, and I totally agree with the point about alienating parents/children.
However...
I love the Ultimates version of Tony Stark...an unapologetic drinker who actually sez "Who's gonna climb into that suit and do this crazy stuff sober?"
It kinda underscores the eccentric Howard Hughesishness of his character.

I'm really glad he's going to be first exploring who the character is first, while creating the suit to save his own life. Jon really has expressed all the necessary base of the character, and just what he stood for when it came to his drinking problem. I think it's far better that the sequel would keep that instore.

I do agree with that, too. It makes a lot of sense, too. If the movie were to get an "R" rating, then I could see it happening. Or, even film the footage, and set it aside for an uncut Director's Cut, ala Daredevil.

See how in the FAQ Fav says he's laying the GROUNDWORK for it (It being alcholism)...he can't do that without having Tony drink.
Which means he simply swills a martini once or twice.
Or he can be seen sucking back quite a few throughout the movie without actually being loaded and screwing up in the armor.

Yeah, it's the "R" rating that I don't want the film to have yet. Considering it's the first, I think people should get a good feel on Iron Man. Why he's decided to make the suit in the first place, what he's using it for, who he's using it against, etc. Maybe the could film some footage containing the drinking. I like the idea of having it on the D-Cut. But personally, if Jon wannted to give a sign that it'd be explored, he could just have a bottle sitting there on a table or something....

I'd like to see him order a drink kinda like a James Bond style. :D

Yeah, I can see that working. Just as long as it doesn't exceed to far. Favs really sounded like he already had the alcohol problem settled in his head, even though he isn't even done with the first film. :D

Also ironic that Michaelangalo happens to be my favorite turtle. :D

Harry Osborn managed to get decently sloshed in SM2 without an R rating, Iron Man could do the same.
The other reason I'd like to see as much drinking ASAP is because it would seem less like they just pulled it outta their hats in a sequel (and sequels are by no means a gaurentee at this point).
Just like Harry Osborn developed in SM. Obviously neurotic in SM1, quite a bit moreso in SM2. If they hadn't taken the time to spare a few moments for his personality disorder in 1, it wouldn't have gone down so well in 2. It woulda seemed arbitrary.
And I'd like to avoid that for Iron Man.
Plus, Tony Stark is probably the numero uno flawed hero. What better way to drive home the irony of his Iron Man persona than by showing him to be anything but from the start.

I think he should have a drink or two in the movie, but only to forshadow a possible storyline in a future sequel.
