Nemesis

From Millar World: OKAY SO A HUGE DIRECTOR JUST GOT IN TOUCH RE NEMESIS!

I specifically told CAA not to let anyone see this, but he's a big deal and obviously just wangled his way into a look at this. And now he's approached with a producer, a screenwriter and a studio.

Two other guys got in touch before Christmas, but this is one of those guy's everyone has heard of. Very tempting, but my fairy godfather Vaughn told me to stick to a plan on this and build up a bidding frenzy in the weeks leading up to Kick-Ass premiere as they KNOW this will make a fortune and, given that Wanted made 350 mill, they feel Nemesis could be the next big thing.

Anyway, exciting times. Happy to hold firm though as I want to make sure this is the best possible deal we can get. From a quality POV, though, this is a classy act!

Mark Millar's latest comic series 'Nemesis' has Hollywood abuzz... so will Sam Raimi direct?

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
telling the story of a billionaire who also happens to be a nightmarish supervillain who loves to pick one cop per year to torment and taunt before finally killing him. Basically, he's Batman and the Joker in one body, and in the upcoming series, he finally picks an American cop, who turns out to be the best opponent he's ever had.
"Wanted" was also a pretty major world-wide hit, so Millar is about as hot as a comic creator can be in Hollywood. The only thing that would make "Nemesis" even more attractive to studios would be if a major director was onboard to direct the film.

Oh, what's that? Sam Raimi suddenly has an opening on his dance card? Verrrrrrry interesting. I know that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are excited about having Raimi make "World Of Warcraft" his top priority, but I'd love to see a pissed-off Raimi making a superhero film that was designed to fly in the face of Marvel and Sony's next "Spider-Man" as well. It would be a delicious way to spend summer 2012.

FOX JUST OFFERED ME X-MEN 4 THE TOUGHEST DECISION OF MY CAREER SO FAR...

Why? I love the X-Men movies. The exec at Fox also seemed like a really smart guy who knows exactly what worked and didn't work about the earlier trilogy. He has an abiding love for the comics and knew my work better than I did. I have no doubt he's going to put together an amazing movie here because the people he's talking about behind the camera are all friends and heroes of mine. He also offered me massive scope with the story and I have an idea I really like, something that takes the franchise in a really fresh direction.

But you know what?

I'm having so much fun creating my own characters and enjoying the control this gives you over the comic-books and the movies that handling an established franchise eems odd to me now. It's tempting, SO tempting for a guy who's been a fanboy as long as he can remember, but I need to stick to my guns. I want to create the NEXT generation of superheroes over the next few years and going back would, I think, be a mistake.

Vaughn is being offered everything you can imagine too in the wake of Kick-Ass, but we both agreed that keeping complete control is what made Kick-Ass such an amazing experience for both of us. Six big producers have now come forward for Nemesis (I've always said I'm holding off until April 17th before I let CAA take this out) and Vaughn and I already have our next movie planned out, based on a book I'm doing with Leinil Francis Yu in September.

But it's still the friggin' X-Men, guys. Have I gone mad? Was it nuts to turn this down?

The first issue of Nemesis was quality stuff, so maybe he should concentrate on getting the series out before screwing around with movie ideas.

as am i, Scotts one of thosew directors whose been around long enough to not get bullied into anything by the studio, say what you will about pelham, but it was HIS movie in the end. i'm curious to see what he does. i hope he gets the core concept of nemesis, that its basically the antithesis of batman. I'd like to see it handeled in the vain of batman begins, where instead of Nemesis just telling people his life story, it starts at the beginning and shows you his journey, on in this case its a journey into a life of sedition and chaos lol

One of the best series out there now (along with Powers and Invincible). I can't wait to see this.

I've been reading Nemesis since #1 and I have a feeling that there's a great story in it but that it's minimalised to put in more action and wide screen epic scenes. Hopefully Scott can give it a bit more dialogue.

I just don't know how they can get a movie deal when the comic mini isn't even finished yet.

Are you joking? Im pretty sure they are developing mini-series for the purpose of adapting them into movies

I find it amazing that a book with only two issues in -- and very late at that -- gets a movie deal already? How does that fly? Don't get me wrong, the book seems great so far, but it's uber violent and completely unrealistic. I would hate to see them make this and mangle it just like they did with Wanted. :(

I think he pitches the stuff to the studios first, then creates the book to let it generate buzz, and if it does then it gets green-lit. I know it might sound crazy or far out from reality, but stranger things have happened.

Well, that's pretty standard. Every character is ripped from something, Punisher/Mack Bolan, Nova/Green Lantern, Captain America/The Shield, etc. Rip or no rip though, the film is still getting made. It kinda irks me because I would love to see the originals come out first, but popularity is popularity.

This is the part where we realize and accept that characters like Batman and others aren't as original as people think. Just more popular and more recognized than characters such as Shadow, Green Hornet, Fantômas among many others. :)

'Nemesis' Director Tony Scott Says He's 'Just Beginning' Adaptation

Scott said that he isn't sure exactly what it was that drew him to "Nemesis," except to say that it was an instinctual feeling — something he tends to rely on quite often in his movie selections.

"The comic sat on my desk for about a week and I kept looking at it and looking at it," he said. "I don't know what [exactly made me pick it up]. What speaks to me? Why make the movie? What speaks to you is your heart and your mind. It's spontaneity. Once you start analyzing why you're doing something, you're in trouble. I've had a love affair with every movie I've done — 16 now — and I'm lucky, because I've always been able to follow my heart."

But it'll take some time before Scott fully immerses himself in Nemesis, as he provided a status update on the project: "I'm just beginning now. We're right at the beginning."

If there is a film adaptation, I hope theres a little more focus on the cop and a little less focus on Nemesis.
