Which era of comics are the Iron Man movies most like?

Which era of the comics would you say the Iron Man movies most like? Are they like the recent runs or more similar to the early issues? Or perhaps are they like the Michellinie/ Layton years?

I can certainly see influences of Michellinie and Layton in the whole glamourous lifestyle and confidence that Tony Stark has. RDJ is a bit flashier and cockier though than Michelinie's Stark.

I am starting a list of runs that the film tapped into.

-Extremis
-Ultimates 2, Bk 2 (aerial attack on Air Force One.)
-Roxxon Corporation (Created by Englehart, but, I suspect with the Russian presence in TA and the Winter Soldier film, it will connect to Brubaker's corporate intrigue in his run, esp. with Winter Soldier.)
-Iron Patriot (Dark Reign---Dark Avengers # 1).

From Screenrant:

Haunted: scenario involving Maya, Mandarin, and Extremis.

Anyone else spot any comic connections?
