Robert Rodat To Rewrite ‘Thor 2′
By MIKE FLEMING | Tuesday January 10, 2012 @ 8:34pm EST EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Studios has set Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat to rewrite Thor 2 for director Alan Taylor. Rodat is reworking a draft by Don Payne. Disney will put the film into production later this year for release in 2013 with Chris Hemsworth returning as the title character. The sequel changed when Taylor, a prolific director of TV series including Game of Thrones, replaced Monster helmer Patty Jenkins. http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/robe...ewrite-thor-2/ *Excellent news, imo!* |

Yep, this is definitely great news. And I've already seen one report saying this is a bad sign lol. The movie doesn't shoot for 5 months and the guy rewriting has done some fantastic work. I love Saving Private Ryan and the Patriot.
So now Thor 2 has a director from Game of Thrones and the writer of Saving Private Ryan. Can you say epic? |

THOR 2 Rewrite Handled by Robert Rodat
by Dave Trumbore Posted:January 10th, 2012 at 6:55 pm Lately, Thor 2’s production has been in flux due to the original director Patty Jenkins leaving citing “creative differences” and new director Alan Taylor having to wait for a new writer to rework Don Payne’s original script. It looks as if Marvel Studios has settled on a new screenwriter so now everyone can just settle down and get back to work on making the sequel to one of 2011’s most successful films. Originally considered a contender for the rewriting job, Robert Rodat has bested competitors John Collee and Roger Avary for the position. The Oscar-nominated scribe behind Saving Private Ryan and the creator of TNT’s Falling Skies will have the task of scripting where the Asgardian’s story will head after he wraps things up with the The Avengers this May. Hit the jump for more on Thor 2. Deadline originally reported on Marvel’s selection for Rodat to work on the script. As per a recent interview by Tom Hiddleston concerning the film, in which he will again play the villainous Loki, Thor 2 will be in London this summer to begin filming. Disney is looking to get production started as the film is currently scheduled for a November 15th, 2013 release. Principal actors Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are in place to return, but little has come out regarding the plot. http://collider.com/robert-rodat-thor-2/136939/ |

Saving Private Ryan Scribe Brought On To Rewrite Thor 2
1 Comment published: 2012-01-10 19:44:46 Author: Eric Eisenberg When it was announced last summer that Marvel would be handing script duties to Don Payne for Thor 2, I was seriously confused. In addition to the fact that the first movie had Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (who wrote the awesome X-Men: First Class), Payne's previous work includes dreck like Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer and My Super Ex-Girlfriend. With so many talented writers in Hollywood, it didn't make sense that the studio would go to someone who has such a poor track record. Lucky for us, they have realized what they did and have made a move to fix it. Deadline reports that Robert Rodat has been brought in to do rewrites on the script for Thor 2. While the project will be the first time that Rodat has ventured into the superhero world, his name carries clout because he was the Oscar nominated screenwriter on Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. His other work includes The Patriot, the film starring Heath Ledger and Mel Gibson, as well as the television series Falling Skies, which premiered last year. As confirmed by Tom Hiddleston earlier this week, the film is scheduled to go into production this summer in London with Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor at the helm. According to the site, the planned story for Thor 2 changed when Taylor was brought on board to replace Patty Jenkins in the director's chair. This is great news. Robert Rodat is a legitimate screenwriter who will hopefully take the sequel to the next level. In a way this reminds me of when Joss Whedon was brought on to direct The Avengers and ended up completely rewriting the draft that was by Zak Penn (who was also responsible for some superhero disasters, including the first Fantastic Four movie, Elektra, and X-Men: The Last Stand). I look forward to seeing the result of Rodat's work. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Savin...r-2-28761.html |
Re: Thor 2 news, speculation and pictures possible Spoilers - Part 1
Why would people think this was a bad sign? They've said all along that Payne's draft would be re-written depending on who was chosen as a director.
I think the choice of Rodat is outstanding. I was starting to worry about this movie, but it seems to have righted itself. |

when you pronounce Rodat's last name is it kind of Belgian hupti French as in the silent AT? like Robert Rodaaa? Or is it pronounced Ro-dat with the emphasis on the DAT like Data

Re: Thor 2 news, speculation and pictures possible Spoilers - Part 1
This looks to be a good choice. I was personally hoping for Roger Avary but this will do nicely. Not every movie he's worked on has been gold(Tall Tales, 10,000 BC) but he seems a good choice.

Re: Thor 2 news, speculation and pictures possible Spoilers - Part 1
Well, I am a big fan of Saving Private Ryan so this is good news to me, the guy knows how to do epic at least so I am hoping he brings some large scope and gravitas to the movie.

I wonder what the creative difference was that needs to be changed. |
Re: Thor 2 news, speculation and pictures possible Spoilers - Part 1
Before they start exploring other worlds, I hope that “Thor 2” allows viewers and audiences alike to get a chance to explore Asgard’s city more and to see on what daily life is like for its inhabitants. Heck, it’d be great to see on what the populace’s opinion is of Thor and of the Loki situation especially considering that just 2 years before these events, Loki was a prince of Asgard and acting King for one day.
