Finally viewed it... give it a 8.799997 with an A for trying. There is so much I could say, like and dislikes, but I think I will keep it to the main point.

***SPOILER ALERTS****
I have no idea why we have to do this in a thread already marked for spoilers but whatever.

Likes: love the Spidey/Gwen Stacey angle being approached here. I also loved the high school setting, the Oscorp Dr Connors, and Capt Stacey story elements. All of these things felt more like the origins of the comic book Peter Parker/ Spiderman. Even with the "retelling" of his actual spider bite and the "changes" in the death of his Uncle, I wasn't removed from the origin story because it seemed to focus on the right characters in the right setting....with ONE glaring omit-ion. Where were all the other women in Peter's life??? Betty Brant, Liz, Mary Jane??? Each studio that has made this movie keeps going for some over romanticized/ fairy tale love story and forgetting that the love story as it was originally written was WAY better than this hurried, contrived, not deep, no heart CRAP that keeps being portrayed as LOVE in MOVIE AFTER MOVIE. And not just this film, but throughout hollywood movies today. I really feel sorry for the teenage generation, its like porn writers are writing love stories nowadays.
Anyway, I'm really sorry for the rant, the movie actually is pretty good. Its just with all those other elements, I really thought this movie would break the mold and tell a real love story but I guess I got my hopes up too high...

Go see it, great entertainment, just don't believe the under-written love garbage this ones selling.

Saw it yesterday for the 4th time and yup still love it! I loved Horner's score so I downloaded it, THIS is how you make a Spidey film, 11/10!:awesome::up:

P.S. for the overly sensitive people, this is just my opinion.:o:oldrazz:

Saw it this morning. I'd rate it an 8/10. It was kind of slow in the beginning but it picked up about half-way through. Thought the cast did a great job and Garfield did an awesome job as Peter/Spider-Man.

Looking forward to the next movie.

6.5 / 10.0..rounded up to a 7 in polls. I'm a tough grader. Extraordinary films get 9s and 10s and 0s and 1s. 5 is utterly average.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I was dragged to a 3D screening in RealD or whatever. It surprisingly looked good with only a few moments of flatness or pop-up book (AKA bad 3D to me) look. I don't give a care about 3D but at least it wasn't bad for what it was. Most of the special effects looked decent as well but maybe watching it in IMAX would expose more of the flaws. I remember not liking the effects in some of the footage released on the internet but it wasn't anywhere as bad as I remember it.

Emma Stone is a gem. The actors not named Andrew Garfield did a pretty good to great job with what they had, like Field and Sheen.

It seemed to take a long time to get to Spider-Man, which reminds me of Batman Begins. A lot of the physical comedy worked for me...but not all. The basketball stuff did nothing for me while the subway stuff was good.

The ending was fine. No more lizard men.

With that out of the way, I really hated Andrew Garfield's acting and think he's pretty awful and just think the character is all over the map emotionally. He is extremely unconvincing in his performance, and is the weakest link in the TASM chain...which is unfortunate because he is the main character. It drags my feelings down a bit.

I also don't think the overall tone was quite perfect for a Spider-Man film.

Well, that's my piece of mind for now.

To everyone who loves the score;

Has anyone listened to it on its own without the movie? Does it feel that some points of the music worked better than what was used in the movie? Because the scoring of the movie was really the only negative I had about it.

I listened to it on it's own without the movie. I feel like it can actually be jarring in it's turns without having the movie to go along with it.

Re: OFFICIAL Rate & Review the Amazing Spider-Man! - Part 1

Got the chance to watched it last night and I liked it. I still like 2002's Spider-Man more, but this one was great too. I loved how compatible Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are and it felt so natural. I love the awkward moments between them since I had a dumb smile on my face. All the cast members did a very good job performing in this movie. I've always been a fan of Andrew Garfield and from the start I hoped he and the movie did well in order to shut up all the doubters or "Team Tobey" people. A lot of my friends thought he did a superb job. Some said he was better than Tobey and some say he was on par.

I know that some people didn't like The Lizard's look and I was one of them, but I grew to accept it over time. I had no problems with how The Lizard looked and acted when I watched the movie. It was awesome to see him and Spider-Man go at it especially in the school. I loved how they were fighting all over the place like on land, walls, ceilings, etc. Very cool. I'm glad that they kept the lab coat on him for a couple of seconds until it was torn to shreds.

The visuals, cinematography, soundtrack was well done. I felt the soundtrack was a little weak, but it was bearable. It was great to see the web shooters at last and seeing it in action when they switched to first person view was very cool. I would have loved more first person view scenes such as fighting The Lizard since it would have felt more intense.

Overall, it was a good movie with some editing and marketing problems, but I enjoyed it. I am now eagerly waiting for more sequel news.

Re: OFFICIAL Rate & Review the Amazing Spider-Man! - Part 1

My review:

I give it a 7 out of 10.

The plot just seems to go from point A to point B without a natural flow (much like Daredevil did), we never really get to understand many of the characters or their motivations, too much is left unresolved (to the point of feeling more like a setup for a sequel than a movie in and of itself) and the characterization of Peter is awful. We may have gotten quips, but Garfield's Parker lacks the common man, likability that Maguire brought to the table....there was a genuine warmth to Peter that made the audience root for him. Garfield, IMO, lacked that. He just came off as a punk with a chip on his shoulder. Furthermore the Lizard was beyond absurd in terms of appearance and characterization. His scheme felt like something from an 70s Bond movie.

One huge problem that I had is that I never really felt Spider-Man's presence. He was there, but no one outside of the main characters and a crane worker really seemed to care. Raimi's films, for better or worse, showed the world's reactions to a guy in spandex swinging through Manhattan stopping crimes. This movie needed something like that. The impact should've been felt in the world.

That being said, it was well acted (especially from Leary and Sheen) and the action scenes were great.

So yeah, overall, 7 out of 10. Not quite Batman Begins, not quite Superman Returns but somewhere in the middle. The sequel does have potential to be better....but the movie should've focused a little less on what is to come and a little more on what is in the now.

Finally found the time to watch the Movie. I give it a 9/10 easily. Mark Webb delivered all the stuff I ever wanted from the original Trilogy. I rate this Movie above the entire first Trilogy, already alone because of the actors. The main characters and supporting cast were just a delight to watch.

That entire sequence of Uncle Ben getting shot, Peter rushing to his side, trying to stop the bleeding, up to the point of Peter smashing Flash against the locker and Flash just telling him he was sorry, had me freaking teary eyed. I never came close to that in Raimi's Movies. With Tobey's unintentional funny face whenever he cried, Aunt May's long speeches, caricatures like Jonah and the overall cheesy vibe, I barely cared for any of the characters. In Raimi's Movies, I only cared about the villains and fight sequences, in Webb's Movie, I care about the whole shabang.

I agree. I do think the Raimi films still have some great stuff in them, but overall, just average and I didn't really connect to any of the characters.
