Re: DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 9

The newest issue of Batwoman wasn't my cup of tea either, and I agree that the missing children plot has been dragged out way too long. My interest in the title comes and goes and I tend to find my favorite portions are not dealing with the missing children story. I like the villains (well, the Weeping Lady and Mary) and I like the whole Flamebird thing and Kate's training in issue 0, but the core story bores me. This Wonder Woman thing does even less.

I'm hanging on because I do enjoy the title but it's slipping down my buy list fairly quickly.

It's still my favourite comic book from either DC or Marvel right now :)

Sorry your not enjoying the Medusa plotline Hobbit. I be loving it personally but eitger way this arc wraps up the Medusa plotline and a new one will be starting in the fourth arc so the whole plotline with Kate trying to get the kidnapped victims back from Medusa and stop her plans will be resolved in this arc :)

I like the rogues gallery Williams is giving Kate too. Bloody Mary, the new version of Killer Croc, Maro and the Hook are neat

Saga is pretty neat

But unless it suddenly stars a bad ass lesbian hero as its main character its not going to be able to replace Batwoman as my number one favouritest comic book of all time

It's definitely on my regular buy list though I be enjoying it

Sword of Sorcery was pretty fab this week

I'm totally shipping Amethyst with that kick ass archer princess after this issue. I'd loves it if Christy Marx has those two get together. Amethyst having a fab lesbian archer girlfriend would make me :hrt: her even more

Also Flash was fun on a bun this week. Rogues vs evil gorillas

Go buy it now all of you

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 to have 52 variants. One for each state, DC, and Puerto Rico.
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorentino on GREEN ARROW with #17.
Ann Nocente and Alex Sanchez on KATANA
Andrew Kreisberg and Pete Woods on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA'S VIBE

Quote:

Back in August, we told you that in 2013, we’d be launching JUSTICE OF LEAGUE AMERICA from the superstar creative team of Geoff Johns and artist David Finch. Today, we’re pleased to tell you that the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA news only starts there.

Earlier this morning, MTV announced that in addition to the release of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1, February will also mark the launch of two new series: KATANA and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA’S VIBE.

Spinning out of BIRDS OF PREY, KATANA will be written by Ann Nocenti (CATWOMAN) and illustrated by Alex Sanchez (JSA CLASSIFIED). And with a premiere issue being co-plotted by Geoff Johns, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA’S VIBE will come to you from the creative team of writer Andrew Kreisberg (ARROW) and artist Pete Woods (LEGION LOST).

As for JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1? MTV let you know that there will be 52 variant covers of the issue available when it arrives in stores. These variant covers will each feature the flags of all fifty U.S. states, as well as Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

But there’s more! MTV also announced that starting in February, GREEN ARROW will be getting a new creative team! Kicking off with issue #17, GREEN ARROW will be written by Jeff Lemire (ANIMAL MAN; JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK) and drawn by Andrea Sorrentino (I, VAMPIRE).

Stay tuned to MTV GEEK throughout the day for more about each of these series from their creators.

How interesting that DC has enough faither in a Katana and a Vibe comic, but not a 2nd title for WW?

“How about Green Arrow?”

It was a sunny day in late July, a few days after I’d returned home from San Diego Comicon, and Dan Didio had called me. I had talked to Dan at Comicon about what I would write next. We had bounced a few things around at the Con, but nothing stuck. So when Dan called that afternoon, I wasn’t sure what to expect. When he asked me, “How about Green Arrow?” I paused. Oliver Queen was never a character I’d had any particular affection for. I love DC comics and love DC characters, but Green Arrow was never one of the guys I gravitated towards. Yet, for some reason, as soon as Dan said it, something sparked in my head. At that moment, I wasn’t sure why, but something told me this was exactly the kind of book and kind of character I was searching for.

Green Arrow is a character that always has the potential to be a major player in the DCU. When I took on Animal Man, I immediately saw it as a chance to do my version of the classic Vertigo horror/superhero books I loved as a teenager. And, similarly, the first thing I thought of with Green Arrow was a chance to do a really hard hitting, crime/superhero book in the tradition of Mike Grell’s classic run on the character or Denny O’Neil’s The Question comics from the late 80’s early 90’s. Quite simply, I wanted to make Green Arrow a hunter again. A street level hero of the gutters caught up in a world of violence, betrayal and conspiracy.

My ever growing plans for the book will build a huge new mythology around Green Arrow’s legacy and send him across the globe, all the while trying to stay one step ahead of a deadly new cast of villains with mysterious ties to his past. And I knew that if I wanted to pull it off, I’d need one hell of an artist, someone who could match the new vision for Green Arrow that I was after.

Andrea Sorrentino’s stark and beautiful artwork on I, Vampire had caught my eye last year when I was looking at preview copies of the New 52 books. And, I’ve continued to follow him ever since. While his work is perfectly suited for the horror vibe of Vampire, I thought that putting him on a character like Green Arrow would create an amazing tension and a really unique take on a DCU superhero. And boy, was I right. His work so far in Green Arrow has been the absolute best of his career. This is one beautiful looking comic book.

It really is a brand new day for The Emerald Archer. I’ve fallen in love with writing this book and this character. I can only hope that a fraction of the excitement that both Andrea are feeling while working on Green Arrow translates onto the page and you’ll give the book a chance come February when our first action-packed arc, THE KILL MACHINE debuts with Issue #17. I intend to hurt Oliver Queen. Strip him down to the bone and force him to rise up and become the hero he was destined to be. I hope you come along for the ride.

So, “How about Green Arrow?”

Jeff Lemire on Green Arrow is a must for me. I stopped reading the book around issue 10 because it got boring, but this looks fantastic.

They have gone through so many writers on GA, I feel like they should just start it over at #1 again

Re: DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 10

i would consider picking up GA again with him as the writer. animal man has been awesome and i love GA, but his relaunch has sucked.

also, why even bother putting out titles like Vibe and Katana when they are so obviously going to be canceled. seriously though? Vibe? Katana?

Re: DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 10

The only thing that gives me pause with a Lemire GA series is that Young Ollie kinda, well, sucks. He always has. And he problably always will. It's always been that pompous, hardened with age bastard Ollie that makes for the best stories.

That said, if anyone can make a Young Ollie worthwhile, it would definitely be Lemire.

If memory serves, Andrew Kreisberg is a horrible writer too.

I've been waiting for another solid Green Arrow volume for about 5 to 6 years now. I hope that Lemire is the one that could come through because at one point it was one of the DC books I used to buy most often. From Ollie to Connor then back to Ollie again. Now I don't even look at the cover at the comic book store. Him name checking Mike Grell's run which is what made me a fan of the character in the first place seems like a good sign.

I wanted to buy Green Arrow but just didn't like the drastic shift in character post-52. But Lemire as wowed me on Justice League Dark so I might give this a shot. I've always liked the character, maybe I can grow to like young GA.

I don't think I'd even bother with Green Arrow until Ollie has a Van Dyke again. It's like Superman without the spit-curl or Batman without ears. :o
