Where are the Avengers?

I know we saw them parting ways at the end of 'The Avengers' but where do you think they are while Tony's house is being torn apart?

Do you think they are just too busy or like Thor it's too difficult for them to come back?

Personally, I suspect Tony is deliberately keeping them in the dark about this because there's something here he's ashamed of and he wants to deal with personally.

Re: Speculation thread as to where the Avengers are

Well it would be hard to keep the info from Shield and thus Cap, Hawkeye and Widow, though they could simply be on missions of their own.

Thor is fighting his own battle in the other realms, so him not being there seems perfectly reasonable.

Hulk is the only true question mark imo.

They are probably just doing their own thing.

As they said in the Avengers, Thor is worlds away and, based on the new info, dealing with his own huge problems on Asgard.

Cap is leading a new team, including Black Widow and presumably Hawkeye, so they are probably busy with that.

SHIELD won't have a presence, at least not as big as the other films, because they stopped keeping constant tabs on the team at the end of the Avengers.

and Hulk/Banner, he's the only one that is a mystery. He left with Stark at the end of The Avengers, so its assumed he could be working with him at Stark Industries, but it can also be assumed he went back into seclusion.

Is Fury not in this film?

He's not. At most, he might appear in the mid credits or after credits scene but not in the movie itself.

SHIELD is likely to have ZERO presence in this film.

Re: Speculation thread as to where the Avengers are

I'm starting to wonder if a theme in Phase 2 will be about emphasizing through their solo films on how much the Avengers need each other and that they need to be together more often instead of just banding together only when a big threat arrives.

It seems like the next three films will really target some emotional spots for the big three of the MCU. it'll definitely make it interesting to see on how much these three change by the time that they meet each other again in the next Avengers film.

I like your thinking, maybe it will help the big 3 strengthen their bonds with each other, that we all love.

Re: Speculation thread as to where the Avengers are

I dont think it will be like the Avengers are too busy to help.

For instances (and im just speculating)... That AirForce One scene with the people flying out...Iron Man learns about a plot to assassinate the president, gets his suit on and heads straight for the plane but arrives a little to late, thats when we see him fly to save some of the people. In a situation like that only Thor could help, SHIELD couldn't even get to New York to help in the battle!

That last shot in the trailer shows Iron Man in some desolate forest, so maybe SHIELD cant even find him. and in that since it returns Tony to the cave, because his on his own and he needs to figure out a way to make his suit work and to get back!

and since the Mandarin has been behind Tony's capture in Iron Man 1 and gave Whiplash some assistance in Iron Man 2, not to mention blowing up his home, possibly harming or maybe killing Pepper it makes it much more personal for Tony and maybe he doesnt want SHIELD to get involved or the Avengers, maybe he wants to take care off this guy once and for all!!

Stark probably and foolishly has stuff to prevent Shield from spying on him.

Or maybe the mandarin has really good tech

The attack on Tony doesn't seem like it's seen coming from miles, it's not like Hulk can just pop up right after the attack out of nowhere, or anyone else for that matter. Things like this happens in the comics all the time. Not even these superheroes can save everything and everyone at once. And threats, disasters and trouble comes all the time, all over the world and even universe.

Re: Speculation thread as to where the Avengers are

Well at the end of The Avengers Fury told the World Security Council something along the lines of him letting the Avengers go out into the world because they just saved the world and they deserve a break. So what if Nick Fury sticks to his word, he has zero involvement with Stark because he deserves some peace time, no spying, not a thing.

Then the Mandarin attacks, Tony is on his own, he can't contact people for help or he's too proud to ask because it's personal for him.

Hi people! New here, just popping in to mention that in the trailer, if you watch carefully you actually can see that the reason the plane blows up is that the SUIT makes a hole in it... People fall out, than the suit kinda comes back and saves them.

Between this, and the fact that the suit is doing random things without Tony in it, I think Tony will get blamed for the attack or something. Then, SHIELD and everyone else in the world will actively turn their backs on him.

You might be right.
The Sentient Armor is definitely in this movie, probably as a side effect of Extremis, and the SA don't seem too friendly. So IM is probably blamed for the assassination attempt on Air Force One.

Also, about the helicopters: that's a surprise attack, so it's not like anybody (including Stark) is ready for it. It's three gunships disguised as news choppers.....news choppers buzzing Stark's Malibu mansion is probably a pretty common occurrence, so no alarm bells would be going off inside Tony's head.

Even if Tony couldn't contact SHIELD, they would most certainly find a way to contact him (ala Iron Man 2), and plus, I can't see Fury just idly watching Tony get supposedly killed on his watch due to him knowing on how valuable Iron Man is to the world.

If anyone needs an explanation on where they were during all of Phase 2 prior to "The Avengers 2", it's the Hulk since he does not have a solo film to have his own adventures to conveniently preoccupy him from helping anyone else. Thor, Captain America, SHIELD can be busy with saving the world since we know what'll happen with Thor in his sequel, and CA is involved with SHIELD in his own, but by all accounts, Hulk doesn't have any known opponents waiting for him to keep him occupied and it be regressive for the character's development if the reason why he doesn't come out to help anyone is because he doesn't want to cause harm to anyone else considering what he did as the Hulk in the Avengers.

Re: Speculation thread as to where the Avengers are

The answer is that there is "no such thing as heroes." If Mandarin makes Tony look like a criminal, then SHIELD can't come to his rescue since he's on the wanted list. Fury's hands would be tied, and Rhodey would represent that, maybe even communicate that. Cap might be on a mission, and BW and Hawkeye aren't going to go bucking protocol to save Tony.

Thor is away, and Hulk is in hiding/unaware of the situation. It's actually relatively easy to isolate Tony if you turn the government against him. It'll be harder for Cap, I think, unless his movie takes place at the same time as IM3.

I would think they all are off on their own missions. I am pretty sure Thor 2 takes place around the same time as IM3 so Thor is pretty busy, Cap, Black Widow, and Hawkeye are probably off on their own missions or doing shield work. And Bruce/Hulk has proabably gone into seclusion again. But I do fine it odd that Shield will not have any influence or knowledge about whats going on with Tony in this. Though I am sure Nick is gonna have a cameo in the after credits scene to hype up Avengers 2.

Remember in Phase 1 Thor, The Incredible Hulk & Iron Man 2 were happening around the same time. Maybe Thor 2 & Cap 2 are doing the same.

I think your probably right.

I would guess that after the attack on Tony's home everyone thinks his dead.

Tony goes underground unsure of who to trust (the talk of villians who's power reaches everywhere means the Mandarin's Ten Rings terrorists or AIM might have agents that infiltrated the U.S Air force or Stark International or Shield).

It fits with the back to basics Tony on his own idea.

With everyone thinking Iron Man/Tony Stark is dead it would give the military even more of a reason to push Rhodey as War Machine as Iron Man in not around to save/defend the earth.

Guys I'm wondering if Rhodey doesn't get killed in the attack on AF1. Certainly War Machine will be done after that. We haven't seen anything of Rhodey or WM in anything other than the prep for escorting the President, which will be in the first 1/3 of the movie.

Re: Where are the Avengers?

I think out of everyone Stark is the most shaken by the events of Avengers, so he's probably not talking and distancing himself from SHIELD.

I think we'll find out that all of Phase 2 besides GOTG is happening at about the same time. So Cap and SHIELD will be busy with their own problems and Thor is not even in Midgard. And like someone else said Banner is the big mystery. He's got to show up in one of the films I'd expect. Right now Tony is on the other coast from him most likely. I'd like to see a cameo where Ruffalo is at Avengers Tower working on something via videochat, nice and small but you know what he's up to.

Seems there's plenty of Rhodey/WM/IP to go around....there's the shot of him in uniform inside the Oval Office, looking perplexed as cops riffle through the President's desk --- I strongly suspect that shot takes place *after* the attack on AF1, and the Prez might already be dead. Plus, they recently shot scenes of IM and WM in the Iron Patriot livery showing up at a Malibu beachfront restaurant/bar --- dunno where that happens during the movie.

Re: Where are the Avengers?

They're busy people. Odds are, Cap will be on a mission, probably dealing with the Winter Soldier, while all the Mandarin crap is going on and won't find out about it until after it's over. And Thor is in Asgard dealing with a war with the Dark Elves.

The only real odd one out is The Hulk, as mentioned. Bruce and Tony kind of have a bromance going on by the end of Avengers and it's not like The Hulk has his own movie coming out full of plot or that he's particularly known for doing stuff besides keeping a low profile when not Avenging.

But then again, for obvious reasons Banner does like extended periods of time without a lot of contact with the outside world. He might have gone Doctors Without Borders-ing somewhere without internet.
