Cars in Batman Forever
 

Has any one ever noticed that the cars in Batman Forever are all very old? The film takes place in modern times, but the cars are all from the 40´s or 50´s i think

In Batman 89 you clearly see cars that are from the 70´s and 80´s. In Batman Returns cars are also from that same age. Just look at the cop´s cars in the beginning.

^I'm not arguing with you, I'm just saying the cars were "dated" in all the movies, and were never really modern. Look at the car that rolls up and picks up the Joker after he throws that quill into the guys neck at City Hall.

Yes. But in the Burton movies you had cars who weren´t dated. In Batman Forever all cars were from the 40´s or something. Even the police cars. You don´t see one single car from the 90´s in Batman Forever.

Simple enough, they were going for a Retro vibe. They did the same in Batman:TAS. It's just the direction that the art design took.

Uhh... yeah they were. Back in '89, the cars you see in that film weren't the typical cars out on the street. I don't see a minivan or a Chevy pickup truck in either of Burton's films. I suppose it really depends on what you mean by modern. There are some rather "dated" cars at Bruce Wayne's benefit in the first film. Not to mention the car Alfred is driving around in batman returns.

A 1978 Dodge Monaco don´t seem very dated for a movie filmed in the 80´s. In Batman Forever ALL the cars look like they´re 40 or 50 years old. In Batman 89 you see cars that are also very dated, but you also see cars who are from the 70´s and 80´s.

No i´m not. In Batman Forever ALL cars are very dated. In Batman, you have dated cars, but you also have more recent ones. What can´t you understand? You were saying all cars in Batman 1989 are dated, but they´re clearly not.

Yes, you had cars who weren´t dated. In what world does that equal to "you only had cars who weren´t dated"? Not in mine. Yes, you had dated cars. But you also had modern cars. In Batman Forever all the cars were dated, like if they were living in the 40´s. That´s my point.

haha... what about the car Gordon drove to Bruce Wayne's house when they dropped off cry-baby Robin? That looks like a 70s-ish cruiser. Oh well. Six of one, and half dozen of another.

They do seem outdated But I'm cool with it as it doesn't matter,The films never specifically say what year it is in those two films and I like that cause it's how it often is in the comics and it beautifully worked in TAS

I don't think they really paying much attention to the style of cars in the Burton movies. They were just plain, nondescript cars. It didn't really come off like a stylistic choice. I honestly couldn't tell you what year they were designed in while there's something about cars from the 50s and earlier that have a totally different design philosophy compared to cars from the 70s and 80s which were relatively more modern looking in 89 and 92. A lot of people were still driving their 10-20 year old clunkers whereas you mostly see cars like the ones in Batman Forever at a car show.

An abundance of neon lights and glow in the dark face/body paint, along with leather-clad motorcycle gangs and mohawks or whatever, doesn't strike me as being very Retro.
