Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

Who should do it?

I'm hoping for Ottman.

So excited. This is like the real sequel to X2. I wonder if Bryan Singer chose 1973 so he could include Pink Floyd's "Time"

X2 is not only my favorite X-Men film, it also has my favorite X-Men film score! :)

I hope some of the actual 70s music makes it onto the soundtrack :)

I'm pretty sure Ottman will utilize Henry Jackman's theme for First Class, being as it is a sequel.

I really like Jean's theme the best. Also, the main theme for first class.

I liked the music that they used when Nightcrawler was attacking the White House, I know it wasn't originally composed by Ottman, but I liked that they used it!

I'm ALL for more Mozart. Ottman incorporated it well.

Ugh....can we have a consistent X-men theme in the movies? No? ...okay.

I still think the X1's score was the best. It was very atmospheric and amplified the tone and mood of the films which is what a score should do. X2 and First Class were good too. X3 sucked in all aspects.

Ottman should revisit the themes from X2 as well as First Class.

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

John Ottman has said that he regrets that he often doesn't get a chance to do a follow-up/sequel to a previous film's score to "push motifs further" as he put it. He had a chance to do it with the Fantastic Four movies. That said, I don't believe he is going to completely abandon the First Class theme because it's popular. I can see him weaving that in for scenes set in 1973 with the younger mutants.

But I believe his MAIN theme will be the one he introduced in 2003 for X2: X-Men United.

And he should. Opening the film with it will be amazing and nostalgic, putting audiences and fanboys in a certain mood of anticipation of what's to come, considering what's already come before.

I thought the score for X3 was pretty good.

The music fits very well to the mood of the scenes.

Agree. To use the X2 theme again, even if its a new version, would be really special for all the fans, and it would make us all feel that this is a "franchise", something bigger year after year, and more iconic as time passes. And the use of that same theme would make the general audience to get more familiar with it in the upcoming years, so that would be a really smart thing, I believe. The more times they use it on the future, the more iconic it will be, the more familiar the general audience will be with the franchise, the more special the audience would feel it too.

Star Wars has an iconic theme, Superman too, I think its time X-men franchise gets his iconic theme finally and year after year becomes the GREAT, Epic and Iconic franchise it should be.

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

The iconic theme of X-Men is the 90s cartoon theme. Maybe they need to update that theme for this movie.

Angamb 03-05-2013 09:29 PM

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

seriously?

X2 was a great theme, no need to copy the theme of the tv show from the 90's, even if many fans love it.

if Fox used the X2 theme two more times in the upcoming years, it would become famous worldwide in a matter of time, and almost everyone would get used to it and would love it too.

90's show theme was cool, but it felt like a theme for a animated show. What we need is our own movie theme. And if they have that X2 one, why to not use it again to make it iconic?

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

I can't even remember the theme for X2.

If you're referring to the opening titles of X2 with all the visual effects, I don't think its that memorable.

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

dont you remember it? really??

when was the last time you saw X2? or havent u heard it online recently?

It starts at the end of the white house scene. Probably some fans have said it in the past, but if you listen to it from time to time, after watching the movie or so, it feels iconic.

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

I've seen the film this year, okay. But I don't think it wasn't meant to be theme of the movie. Like some people already said before, the X-Men movies didn't have a theme. X3 and First Class maybe had a theme but it wasn't clear compare to Batman/Spider-Man. So the X2 them that you are saying wasn't really the theme for X2.

Yeah, X2 lacks themes.

Am I the only one who thinks a movie involving time travel must include a theme song by Huey Lewis and the News?

I kid...I kid. :oldrazz:

I loved the First Class score, especially the Magneto theme at the end. Something along those lines would be great.

Re: Scoring Days of Future Past - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

The X2 theme is similar to the X1 theme which is similar to the 90s cartoon theme.
