For Batman I didn't change the New 52 look much I just feel adding some black in the belt ties the uniform together. I picture the material being similar to the Arkham Games a bodysuit with a mesh layer, design to take impacts, with a tough looking fabric covering it. The cowl, gloves, and boots are more armored thicker. For symbol I could go either way. I prefer the one on the left but the others do add nice contrast.

For robin I picture the same thing in terms of material as Batman but leaner and more acrobatic. I love the idea of Robin having a hood, though he wouldn't wear it much, I see it as an optional feature the he only wears when it's cold, raining, wants to look more intimidating, or if he's near someone who might recognize him.

Excellent work, my friend. Middle Batman and leftmost Robin are amongst my favourite designs for movie costumes so far.

If possible, I say start it like the Arkham games. Robin is grown up and is Nightwing. Barbara Gordon is Oracle. I do not know if they should do a younger Robin or not.

To be fair, I think Nolan did adapt the idea of a "Bat-family" in his own way. He just put more emphasis on it being Jim Gordon, Alfred, Lucius Fox and, eventually, Catwoman as well as John Blake (Robin).

But a more traditional route for the next go-round is the way to go. On that I agree.

Black bat symbol all the way!

For Robin, Keep the R and I like the hood up or down.

I honestly think Robin needs some headgear. They have never come up with a good reason why Robin doesn't wear a cowl. Getting his with a glass bottle is easier to take with some head gear then without.

Also I think the R is nice for Dick and the other symbol is nice for Tim.

Re: The Batsuit Thread - Part 2

Robin doesn't wear a cowl because his design needs to be varied from Batman's. Nothing about Batman is realistic, so Robin leaving his head uncovered is not a problem.

Only time I liked Robin with a cowl was Red Robin... That would look very silly on the big screen I'd think!

Robin should not have a cowl. A hood would be more appropriate.

I still like Robin having a cowl and every so often covering his head with a hood.

Personally, I'd like to see something as functional as the suit created for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. I mean, once you get to the point where Batman can turn his head, you should stick with that, I think. I also prefer the darker bat symbol over the yellow and black. I like the idea of being practical in the films, regardless of its fantasy elements.

As far as Robin goes, I think I'd prefer him with some sort of head gear. I'm just not a fan of the domino mask in film when it's meant to be taken seriously. I've no idea as far as a design goes but something red and black could look cool. Perhaps something like the Red Hood's head gear. It could work both as sort of an homage and as something practical.

I always liked Damian's hood and I think it should be brought into the movies for only the sake of cover from the weather.

Not a fan of the batsuit in Nolan's trilogy. It worked, but had a lot of potential. I want a more agile Batman this time. Acrobatic is a better way to describe it.

Re: The Batsuit Thread - Part 2

For a film, the suit doesn't have to be mainly or all fabric to be more agile. Snake Eyes in GI Joe is plenty agile but there is some armor.

Too heavy of looking armor might not make that possible but there is some balance out there that I'm sure they could create if they want to and if they want Batman to be able to keep up in a Justice League kind of world Batman will have to be able to move better.

Not quite sure what you mean, but the TDK/R suit clearly wasn't very practical: Bale couldn't breathe through his nose and moved extremely clumsily in it.

That's great work. I love seeing sculpting pieces. I think, for me personally, the hard creases make it feel more like Hawkman or Note Owl. If I had my choice at design, I'd take a more organic, animalistic path.

I think we now have the one answer to how the new costume should look like:

Re: The Batsuit Thread - Part 2

Just goes to show you, it helps if the right person is wearing the suit. I've always thought that suit would have looked a lot less cheesy if some built like that had worn it. Just give him a plain black bat, and a cylinder utility belt, and we'd have a real-life version of Dick Sprang's Batman.
EDIT: Maybe one of you talented photomanipulators can give that a shot?

The Boy Scout 07-09-2013 10:57 PM

Re: The Batsuit Thread - Part 2

No, the suit has to look good too. Even with those modifications, the actor would still look ridiculous in that suit.

Re: The Batsuit Thread - Part 2

Yeah, a black bat and cylinders on the belt. Make the suit more gray than bluish gray and the cowl, cape, gloves, and boots more grayish blue and it could look pretty good.
