But overall, it does seem like Ben is sincerely excited to be involved in this project, which is a good thing for starters.

And given his history with writing, I do hope that Snyder and Goyer don't pass up the chance to have him put some good input into it.

I can tell Affleck is excited to play the role by the way he acted when he talked about the movie. Man, this is going to be huge. I'm talking nuclear.

That just might be the greatest gif I have ever seen..

First off that gif truly is great and second, Affleck's reenactment of that comment which said "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" was absolutely hilarious. Had Jimmy Fallon not interrupted with his stuttering faux appeasing laughing spurts we may have gotten more.

Ben does seem super excited about the project though.

Fallon did interrupt a lot, he needs to calm down. But it was fun to see Affleck talk directly about it, rather than be closed off. He knows the expectations and understands the reaction.

You see he's starting to transform himself too, he knows he has to compete with Cavill in terms of physicality, as well as everything else.

For those who were discussing earlier. This gif:

is from the Critics Choice Awards last year when Ben won Best Director for 'Argo' (where it also won Best Picture.)

I say yes, but that's because I personally think it would look awesome. Will he? No, he may get much leaner for this film however and through doing so LOOK much larger than MOS.

One of our goal keepers was the highest bodyfat on the team and he was around 15%, and didn't have near the definition or size that Cavill has. To be that size and have the definition that he had you have to have a low bodyfat %. Plus there's no reason for Twight to lie about Cavill's bodyfat %

If you look at slightly higher quality images (like the one I posted below), you'll notice that his abs are indeed quite ripped -- although not to the extent of someone with a much lower body fat percentage. That said, for the MOS sequel, I don't think Cavill needs to look anymore lean than he does in the original, especially considering that Superman owes his impressive muscularity to the Earth's sun, as opposed to working out at a gym.

One thing to realize is that, when you are seeing bodybuilders on stage with 3 percent body fat, everything is geared towards showing off that low body fat. They are completely shaved, oiled up, bronzed, with appropriate stage lighting, water depleted, carb depleted, and flexing to the max. And many other tricks body builders do.

Cavill was doing none of these things, he was extremely pale, very hairy, in very flat drab lighting (actually horrible lighting) and not flexing at all. It is entirely different circumstances. He was just playing a normal man stealing some clothes and running away. I daresay you would see much more of his muscle definition if he did a body building photo shoot with all the bells and whistles.

But this much is certain he had low body fat. Look at the pictures below.

Abs are bulging but look at the arms. Look at the separation between the biceps and the delts, and the pecs and the delts, he is very sharply cut. This kind of sharp appearance comes with low body fat. So even though he might not be 3%, he's definitely single digit.

And both Twight, Snyder and Cavill claimed that figure so it wouldn't be very far off the mark. Cavill very widely claimed that he was at 6% body fat in Immortals. And he looks much much sharply defined in MOS. So he might be around that number.

But remember, the physiques of body builders and actors are presented in extremely different circumstances. It is actually a very disadvantageous way for the actors to present their results, because they just do an incidental scene in films.

Ben speaks about being Batman on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It's starts about 1:44 seconds in.
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

EDIT: Oops sorry about the repost, the video was posted a few pages back on thread 7 before that thread was closed.

Yeah, looked like Affleck was just waiting for his cue to ramble about the casting. Seems genuinely exited.

I dunno. Being experienced and getting to "hide" behind the cowl.

Cavill on the other hand had great reason to crap his trunks.

A phrase that struck me was this

"You can't do what Christian did. Those movies are amazing. He wants to do something different. But still in keeping wit that."

What does this mean? Still in keeping with that? Similar costume? Similar characterization?

probably means still being dark and gritty which is true to batman

Probably "with what the essence of the character is".

Did you guys see him after he failed to get a Best Director nomination? He whined like a ***** and menstruated all over the place. He was really really really butt hurt about that. So he must be feeling the heat of all the people disgusted by his casting atleast a little bit even though he's acting very cool and 'I am a big boy and I can handle it'.

Even Daniel Craig after the hugely critically acclaimed Casino Royale (almost double that of MOS) admitted that he felt a bit depressed after the hateful reaction to his casting. But he won over people with this performance and the film itself was great getting him a Best Actor Bafta nomination.

So Affleck might be feeling a bit more heat than he is letting on probably.

I hope they try to keep him similarly grounded, but only when hit comes to things like his vehicles. I enjoyed the Tumbler and whatever they called the plane. I always thought it was a bit silly, that he gave pretty much everything some sort of Bat shape and added the word Bat to it.

I have no problem with a flying car in a Batman film. Like it was okay in the Original Batman.

But being this grounded thing in TDKR, and everyone acting very self serious, I found it extremely cheesy to have that flying car.

Here's the trouble. If you have a broader tone, like say the Orignal Batman films or Avengers, you can pull of some off these things. But in "realistic' films like TDKR, it looks absolutely ludicrous.

Re: Ben Affleck IS Batman!! - Part 8

It wasn't a flying car, it was an actual flying vehicle. It's not as if the Tumbler pulled a The Spy Who Loved Me.

Where did you get that from? Affleck was actually very magnanimous about the Best Director snub, and if anything called out everyone for constantly saying it was a snub. He even made a joke out of it by saying, "Note that nobody is saying I was snubbed for Best Actor."

Yeah, we'll hopefully get a more "fun" and fantastical Batman, though not as unrealistic as Ironman and his tech.

^ I hope they keep him grounded in the sense that he has to use his wits/gadgets when taking on large crowds/superhumans. I'm not fond of the one-man army approach.

As for vehicles, more Batbike couldn't hurt, and I would totally want to see a more traditional Batmobile. :)

Re: Ben Affleck IS Batman!! - Part 8

He acted like he was denied his birthright or something. He snarkily said while accepting his Best Director award at the BFCA that same "Thanks to the academy." Why draw attention to it if he doesn't mind?

And then at the Golden Globes said something like, "I am happy to win, I don't care which award it is". He always kept referring to his Oscar snub at all the parties. As if the nomination belonged to him and he was wronged for not getting it.

I thought it was all a bit pathetic. I would have been more sympathetic had the film been any good.
