I found a friend today that said he wanted a PS4 but wouldn't be able to get one bc they are presold out everywhere. I offered to give him my Best Buy preorder and he took me up on that. Kinda glad I didn't cancel it now as someone I know can benefit from it. I'll just wait a few days till my Amazon shipment comes in

Finally played on a PS4 for the 1st time today! (Assassin's Creed IV) Couldn't see the machine itself as it was hidden in a cabinet but that controller is great. I've always thought the 360 controller was vastly superior to the PS3's but this is so much improved that it's at least as good as the XB1 controller now.

Was that at the Eurogamer Expo, Iceman?

Hopefully Game should be ringing me this week for me to select my bundle (Killzone + controller + PS Eye). Now that we're a little over two months away I gotta admit I'm pretty hype.

16 days and the States will be one month away from next-gen. Go fast, October.

Sony teasing a new game: S.O.M.A. or SOMA, from Frictional Games (Amnesia). Not much is known if it's exclusive or a timed exclusive or just immediately multiplatform.

https://twitter.com/PlayStationEU/st...14490321801216

Teaser video on the game's website gives some 2001: A Space Odyssey kind of vibes. Has some strong language near the end so be warned not to play the audio too loud depending on where you are.

Yes! Went for the 1st time last year and plan to go every year now. Top event, wish the queue times weren't so long for the top games.

wasnt someone asking on here if we'd be able to hide trophy data with the PS4? With the upcoming firmware update, that will now be possible on the PS3. Also some Plus features are now free for everyone

Man, this is a month and a half away. Crazy!

I wonder when they'll finally release the spec requirements for replacement HDs. I definitely want to upgrade but there still seems to be confusion on the height the HD can be.

Killzone is going to be 50GB! I'd need a 25TB hard drive to go all digital.

how did the D-pad part feel?

I use the D-pad when playing fighting games. On the PS3, sometimes I felt it "grating" on my hand a bit. like the individual D-pad arrows were too hard or something.

does the D-pad on the PS4 feel softer/smoother?

also, did you get to see if there will be a web browser on the PS4?

Sorry I hardly used the D-pad in any of the games I played so couldn't answer that. I agree it's vital for fighters and a big part of the reason why the otherwise pretty-much perfect 360 controller was crap for certain beat'em ups. In other areas though the new PS4 controller is 100 times better. This one feels super comfortable like the 360 one did. It looks great and is super sleek. The directional sticks are much better positioned too.

Also don't know about the browser...no chance to muck around on the PS4 aside from playing the specific games I queued up for for a set amount of time. Actually couldn't even see the console as it was behind a non-transparent cabinet (unlike XB1).

Sorry for the crap answers :csad:

Sony has already said there would be a browser. Wouldn't make sense to not have one considering every platform they've released since the PSP has

Any news on the PS4 Oculus Rift support or their own VR visor thing they were rumored to be working on?

Report: UK retailer SimplyGames increases PS4 pre-order price

UK retailer SimplyGames is cancelling PlayStation 4 pre-orders if customers do not agree to purchase a more expensive hardware bundle prior to the console's launch, PlayStation Community forum members report.

After opening pre-orders at 349.99 earlier this year, SimplyGames has since notified pre-order customers that they "MUST make a new console choice" by upgrading to bundles that range in price from 414.99 to 469.99, in order to ensure release-date delivery. SimplyGames' available bundles include extra DualShock 4 controllers, third-party charging cables, and PS4 games.

SimplyGames confirmed with MCV that the bundle offer is a retailer-led initiative, citing stock configurations that differ from expected shipments. Sony UK responded to the issue, noting that it "would not force anyone to buy something they don't want."

"Since the announcement of these bundles we have been asking retailers to reach out to their pre-order customers to give them the choice of taking a bundle (which hadn't been announced when they placed their original pre-order)," a Sony UK representative told MCV. "We continue to work closely with our retail partners to ensure we offer this choice against the challenges of managing demand and inventory in the climate of amazing excitement and unprecedented demand for PlayStation 4."

looks like the DS4 will be compatible with PC from launch. Cool. I hope developers have native support for it since the 360 seemed to be the default gamepad this gen

A retailer can price a product however they want. What Sony gave is only the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (and that's called Retailer Recommended Price in UK). A retailer doesn't have to follow what the manufacturer set. They can go higher or lower if they choose. They typically wont go higher so they can stay competitive with other retailers but there isn't a low preventing them from doing so.

ETA: Just read that article and yeah that does sound super shady. I also don't know UK law but here in the US, I don't think you are allowed to change the price on existing preorders. You can change it now for future ones but he ones that people have already paid for were for a guaranteed set price

Re: The Official PS4 Thread - Part 3

I don't think it's illegal, since people can get their money back, but it's definitely a sketchy thing for that company to do.

Sony opens pre-orders for wireless personal 3D viewer

Sony is preparing to launch a new personal head-mounted display, the Sony HMZ-T3W. This wireless visor is up for pre-order at Sony Stores and select nationwide retailers right now for $999.

The headset, compatible with PC, consoles, tablets and smartphones through HDMI, is part of Sony's third generation of head-mounted displays and features twin OLED screens. This latest set-up has a lighter frame, flexible headbands and a built-in battery pack (good for three hours) for increased portability. It also supports up to 7.1 surround sound.

Our pals at Engadget went heads-on with the device last month and enjoyed some of the improvements Sony made to this third go at fancy headgear. Sony hasn't said when it'll start shipping the HMZ-T3W, but if you want to get an idea for how you'll look in this voluptuous visor head to Sony's site.
