Wolverine première in May of 2009 isn't as huge as Fox expected and in the next weeks the boxoffice continue bad, so they start thinking about doing X4, have a few reunions, and finally decide to do it. I dont quite get your logic. How would Wolverine underperforming at the boxoffice be a good thing for the X-Men franchise? If Wolverine tanks you would probably be less likely to see an X-Men sequel. Personally I don't think there will be a sequel regardless of how well the spin-off movies do. Maybe a reboot eventually, but I'd be surprised if we see another X-Men movie before 2015.
