Some of my favourite Batman stories have been in that style, like Morrison's Arkham Asylum GN. Morrison's run in general has a lot of surreal, mythological elements.
****, i'd be happy with a straight up adaptation of Arkham Asylum by Del Toro or Cuaron. Delves into the psychology and mythology of Batman rather than the actual crime fighting aspect. And would make for some lush visuals.

Speaking of which, I'd love to see Morrison's
Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth adapted to the screen as a psychological thriller, perhaps in the vein of
Shutter Island. It's one of my favorite Batman stories and resonates with me on a personal level. I only hope that a film adaptation could retain its psychological insight into Batman, and the way it creates unease and uncertainty about Batman's sanity.
