He wanted the team distracted so more people could get onto the helicarrier. If he just had Hulk rampage it might not of worked out properly.

Did it seem to anyone like iron Man was too invincible in his suit. I thought there was a couple times he fell where I would of expected him to be knocked out. Not counting the fall from the portal.
