I would assume they would do this. Personally that wouldnt bother me that they have not yet introduce Scott. That way I could just fill in the blank myself. I think going the easy route for an explanation of one character would be the easiest, especially with this franchise. Its one line of explanation in that case. There are quite a bit of ways this movie could go about everything. They dont follow the comics so the possibilites of how they could change the characters, timeline and story could be all over the place.
It worries me a lot that the continuity could get so far out of line that we could see Wolverine appear in the next film as a 6-year-old boy. They seem to consider only one film at a time, so that is quite possible.
Unless they start thinking about this stuff properly, it is going to become disastrous and then box office will suffer.
Anyone creating a fantasy world in any professional sense, whether for books, TV or film, creates a timeline. Without structure, you have a mess. And sooner or later, everyone realises it.
