Given Stark's knowledge, it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't anything in Selvig's notes regarding the Iridium but, after knowing the Iridium had been taken, was simply able to deduce/put 2+2 together.
Just my personal theory, however. If that makes sense.

I'm being a stickler lol I know what they really meant, they just didn't SAY that. Tony basically replies to Banners question like the need for Iridium was IN Erik's notes.
