It's a big deal because for those who have an emotional investment in the character, especially going back to childhood, the classic vision of Superman has been an indelible image for years. Didn't you ever as a kid dress up as Superman for Halloween and try to get it exactly right as well as notice when something was off with other kid's superman costumes? It's really as simple as that. Being as I am now an adult (more or less) sure I can accept change if it serves a cool purpose and enriches the character. But the bottom line is that if something means something to you, you like it just they way it is and get annoyed when it's ****ed with.
