X-Men 1 sold about 25-30 million tickets in the United States. If you can prove to me that the X-Men: Animated Garnered ratings of even half that number of viewers, I will agree with you, but I highly doubt it did.
I can't imagine it's viewership was much more than 1/10th of that figure, which wouldn't necessarily mean everyone going to the film was unaware of the change, but a lot fewer people were bothered by it than you seem to believe.
