Gotham will always be a *****hole in the comics. Let's face it, if Batman was truly successful in the comics, there wouldn't be any crime. If there isn't any crime, there isn't any need for a Batman. If there's no Batman, then there's no comics to sell. The limbo approach is fine when Batman films are being handled like Bond films, which go on and on.
