But it all really circles around Bruce.
Whether you buy it is personal preference. But you can't say they did it "for no reason." You just don't like that reason.
For me, it's not silly at all considering the metaphor of what Gotham stands for in this trilogy.
Gotham is a stand in for his parents and their legacy. More specifically, his father's. So putting Gotham through all of that is even more soul crushing in the eyes of Talia and Bane because they know what Gotham really
means to Bruce...
