Avengers is a popcorn flick. I am not sure why people consider that an insult. Even Whedon said he isn't trying to make a great movie, but at a great time at the movies. He succeeded, but let's not pretend it was revolutionary beyond being the first team-up movie.
As for the rest of it? He is now a studio spokesman. Of course, he will have to be loyal to his brand, but the idea of that studio competing with Feige's empire? That just seems silly.
