I think this is easily the best incarnation of Splinter.
You actually buy him as a ninja master, who could keep teenagers in line.
I also like that the turtles seem a bit more Japanese, which makes sense, since they're basically culturally Japanese Americans (on account of being raised by a Japanese father). They didn't have to do that, but they did. It's a nice touch.
In a film, it would be very cool for example, if they had Leonardo and Splinter hold a conversation in Japanese. Or say Shredder and Splinter.
