The two go hand in hand. Without a journey of some description all you're left with is an empty reveal at the end that has no emotional weight whatsoever. At no point throughout this film was there ever an attempt to throw us of the scent, it was clear from the moment Ra's name was dropped that she would be Talia, but there was no attempted for that reveal to actually mean something. I can't feel Bruce's pain because the two of them never had a connection in the first place.
