I mean he just flat out told her "no autopilot", when in fact it was fixed. He didn't plan on bringing Selena with him. I mean, up to 11 minutes prior, he was in a relationship with Miranda.
He wanted everyone to think he was dead.
I imagine that it isn't till afterwards, thinking about that kiss, that it hits him that he still has a hope for a 'normal life', so he brings Selena with him.
