Superman Returns was a mediocre success, not a flop like Batman and Robin. The bitter disappointment is there Only with hard core Superman fans and Marvel fans. lol. Take a look at the comparison :
Batman & Robin (1997)
Tomatometer 12 %
Average score 3.4/10
IMDB rating 3.6/10
Worldwide collection: $238 mil.
Superman Returns (2006)
Tomatometer 76 %
Average score 7.1/10
Worldwide: $391 mil.
And Superman Returns made more money than Hulk, Batman Begins, TIH, Captain America and X-Men First Class.
The "stigma", "Baggage" etc. of SR is not as much as we think, I think many non fans have already forgotten about it.
