I'm not a big comic guy, so here's a quick question for those in the know...

Was Jor-EL ever portrayed as a fighter or anything other then a Scientist in the comics? Just trying to get an idea of why he would be in battle with Zod?

In the Silver and Golden age comics (1930s-1970), and post 1970, Jor-El was portrayed mostly as a great scientist, the equivalent of a combination of Leonardo da Vinci, Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein and Niklo Telsa (well anyway in my mind). The only major character change that I remember was made by John Byrne' mid 1980s Superman but then Jor-El reverted back to the Silver age character in the 2000s/10s.

I don't recall any comic (unless there was one in else-world prints) Jor-El as a warrior or soldier, but certainly Crowe's warrior-like Jor-El is going to be a first, and will be a rarity in Superman universe.
