Yes, I would actually say that Nolan's Alfred is much more of a reformed war veteran/soldier of fortune type. I kind of see him as the elderly version of Caine's character in The Man Who Would Be King.
I suppose if you cast someone in their 50s or early 60s you could go further. But I imagine it will be more formal and like Gough and TAS in the future. Just a hunch.
