It all comes down to marketing and I feel FOX has yet to reach the hearts of the movie viewers. Like most of the X-Men movies did very well at the opening weekend but all of them had weak legs at the box-office. X3 got 100million in its opening weekend and it wasn't even close to hitting the 300 million mark at the end of its run.
FOX was able to create a couple of good X-Men movies which is surprising especially if you look at their record of the films that they made that are based on popular characters from the comics, cartoons or books, most of them aren't as good as the X-Men series. But they have to improve their marketing strategies.
