A few years ago, some fan site (forget which one) did a retrospective (with mp3 files) on Superman music through the ages. The Williams theme (of course) was there. As well as: the 50s TV series, various cartoons, L&C and Smallville. And casually included among those was music from Superman Lives.

Say what?!!!

Now that movie was well into pre-production before it got cancelled. So it wasn’t impossible that someone (Elfman?) might have composed a preliminary theme. But the mp3 was suspiciously complete and polished. That said… as I listened to its choir and percussions, I could definitely imagine it for Superman.

Anyhoo, long story short, it turned out to be (no big surprise) fake. The music was actually from Backdraft.

Coincidentally, Hans Zimmer was the composer.
