Not sure that “heartbreaking” is quite the right description. I think people are responding to the word (and especially Crowe’s delivery) because it strikes just the right balance of plain fact, fatherly pride and outright bravado. (Sorta like: “Honey, our son’s gonna be frickin Superman!”
Watch his eyes more closely. At the same time as having bravado in his voice, there is a certain pain and sadness in his eyes about having to send his son away. Or maybe I'm the only one who sees that...
