Re: Disappointments of the Trilogy?
Iron Man 2: I wish that it had an actual story with a sense of rising stakes and tension. Most of all I wish that Vanko, so well cast and interesting, was not was a wasted bore. Same with the idea of international escalation which is an intriguing idea raised in the Congressional scene and then dropped.
Iron Man 3: I only wish that Tony's arc of "giving up the armor" didn't feel so tacked on. In many ways, he actually is given the ending at the last minute that Nolan gave Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight Rises. But it feels arbitrary and needlessly done to give a sense of closure to Tony Stark's storyline, as RDJ may not come back. It needed more.
Otherwise, I am fine with this relatively light comedic trilogy of films.
