There's always been a problem with comics Xavier in that most writers have no idea what to do with him. He's always been "boring" in a sense. Looks to me like Singer knows exactly how to make him interesting.
And one of the things I liked about Charles in First Class was that he was that he partied, and that his opening narration in the original films were just pickup lines. Obviously, his heart and mind were set in the right place, and he was still obviously Charles Xavier, but he was still a very typical young guy, and there was still some maturity that he needed to attain.
