It doesn't sound too different from old Etonians like Hugh Laurie to me. However, I'm Canadian and what little I know about such things comes from books and BBC.
When I say hard to place, I mean it's hard to place in terms of where he comes from as the accents from alot of places in England are quite definitive. It's no doubt due to his upbringing & the fact that I presume he was shifted all over England attending school & whatnot & then I believe he started his acting career around 18 or so meaning he had probably been living in or visited America as well.
He wasn't born in England either sure he wasn't? Jersey? or am I making that up.. I could have swore I read that somewhere.
