Being directed by James Cameron really doesn't mean anything. Sam Worthington was the same in Avatar as he always is. The reason Zane did so well in Titanic is because his role was written well and fit him like a glove. I don't see why people don't think he couldn't give a good Lex Luthor.
I suppose if Lex is a smarmy, pompous snob who talks in a faux English accent, he'd be fine. And I know Lex has been portrayed that way from time to time. But that's not the Lex I'd want to see. Yes, Lex is rich and views himself as superior to almost everyone, but (IMO) it should be because he IS superior to everyone. He's literally the most brilliant man on the planet and that power is essentially what corrupts him, even though he probably doesn't see it that way. Lex isn't just some uptight aristocrat type. But if Zane played him, I fear that is the type of Lex we would get. Even if he wasn't written that way, he'd come off that way.
