The film could have benefitted from a lighter touch.

It was so damn dark; say what you will about Nolan's films, but he managed to offset some of the dramatic tension through the bickering btw. Bruce and Alfred. The only attempt at humor in the film failed horribly: the "he's hot" line not only fell on its face, but compromised what could have been a great ending.

"I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloak, what battles has the B---- of Bolton ever won that I should fear him?"
One of the best soundtrack sections. Ever.
