Well I was going by what's said in the article. There was a lot of talk about the "summer of doom" (financially speaking), and besides if you compare the films, there is a drop in quality.

Going from these:

The Dark Knight Rises
The Amazing Spider-Man

to the likes of:

The Lone Ranger
Pacific Rim
After Earth
Man of Steel
Iron Man 3

I'm not saying that all the blockbusters in 2013 are worse than the ones last year, but overall, this year seems a bit of a let down, especially after all the hype about the trailers.

Maybe it's just bad luck that the superhero team-up movie combining various film franchises, a Bond film - Skyfall, a Nolan Batman film which was following TDK ( a cultural phenomenon), and a Tarantino film - Django Unchained, all happened to be in the same year.

Anyway, this is all slightly off-topic, it was nice to see Greengrass mentioning The Dark Knight Rises there. As for that picture of Bale - that should have been the final scene of TDKR when he's looking at Alfred lol.
