And in places where the blood vessels are more constricted (the area around your eyes, the lines in the palm of your hand, the ears, and so forth), the redder the color.

Arkham Asylum: ASHOASE is EXACTLY the look they should go for. You suggest a toned down ASHOASE look, but if they can pull it off, I think they should go all out with it.
Done similarly to that book, Joker's cinematic appearance could be a visual spectacle. He's always clearly been a guy in makeup in his other live action appearances, this would be an opportunity to do something truly terrifying. ALL of Batman's villains could benefit from a horror touch along the same lines as ASHOASE
