"Maximum Carnage" graphic novel

I've just finished reading the "Maximum Carnage" compilation. It was nice to see Peter Parker reaffirming his "thou shalt not kill" ethos despite considerable temptations to take the road followed by Wolverine, Deathcry, Punisher, Venom et al.
I especially liked Firestar's musing that she would die than become a creature like Venom, as well as that sequence where just by giving a looter a stern look, Captain America deters him by implicitly reminding of his country's highest ideals as well as the episode where a potential rape victim forgives her would be assailants.
No matter how grim or brutal life seems, most people are at base decent, humane and forgiving as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man! The Venoms, Carnages, Shrieks et al will always be a minority!

I can easily say that the Max Car. TPB is the most expensive TPB I've ever purchased. I loved the story but it didn't need to take so long.

I saw it a little differently, in my opinion the story seemed to say that Carnage was right all along, once you remove "illusions" like laws and morals, and only chaos exists, the ultimate freedom, and you can do whatever you want. After throwing the city into chaos, the rioters, looters, murderers, rapists and others all come out, where before the chaos they were restrained by laws and morals.

And them, once symbols of order and goodness impose themselves (such as Captain America) they are again trapped by the restraints of morals and law for fear of punishment. In essence, everyone is a closet Carnage or Shriek, it's just that Cletus isn't permanently restrained form his actions, for he has no fear of punishment or justice, therefore morals and laws are just illusions society made uo because it was scared of it's own inherent evilness. Once you realize the illusion, the lies (as many did during the Massacre) you are free to do anything you want.

Anyway that's just my analysis of the story, a bit cynical, but hey, I'll side with Carnage on subject!

That is a very interesting analysis.

I haven't read Maximum Carnage for about 10 years or so but I remember it as it was the first major comic story arc I read.

I think you have a point although I think the majority of people would prefer being constrained by laws to stop them doing what they might otherwise be capable of.
