Question for those who have sold their comics...

Which ones did you sell and how much did you get for them?

As i hate to see a thread go unanswered........

I have sold afew books. In todays market tho, unless its a golden or silver age DC book or a key bronze Marvel book, its never worth it. Unless you just want to unload them and get them out of your way. My friend owns 2 comic shops and i see people walk in all the time with a stack of comics thinking they are going to get a small fortune for them. There are alot of factors that go into the selling of a book that alot of people dont think about. Is it a sought after book? Is it in good shape? (whats the grade) Is it rare? Does someone have the money to buy the book? (thats a biggy) I know from going to conventions for 20 years and getting to know various dealers, that youll never get more than 40 percent of Overstreet value for the books condition from a dealer. Selling it privately person to person, it all depends on what someones willing to pay for the book. You also have to ponder, do YOU really want to sell the book.

Let me tell you a story, hey, Im bored. Back when my wife and I first got married things were pretty tight financialy. A time came when i had to find a way to get some extra cash and i started looking at what I had that I could sell. The most valuable thing I owned at the time was a copy of Detective Comics 168. For those who dont know, thats the first origin of Joker, the Red Hood cover. I sold it for $400. I had paid $700 for it. It was something that needed to be done at the time, or so I thought, and that was the best price i could get for it. I kicked myself everyday for getting rid of that book. It was rare and expensive. I have finally re aquired a copy of that book, in better condition and at an extraordinary low price. It took me 11 years to get it back.

Moral of the story, if you are a real collector of a particular book, and you think you may want to get rid of it for a quick buck, think again. You may just end up regretting it.
