Default Casting Call: Green Lantern

Hal Jordan: Ben Browder

Just check him out in Stargate and Farscape, he's as close to Hal Jordan as you can get.

John Stewart: Morris Chestnut

He's a good actor who I think can carry the part.

Kyle Rayner: Ryan Gosling

He's a good actor and the right age. He looks the part well enough, and would just need to die his hair.

Alan Scott: Stephen Collins

He plays the father figure well and looks the part.

Guy Gardner: Bradley Cooper

Check him out in Wedding Crashers, he can play the overly competitive Gardner perfectly.

Kilowog: Dennis Haysbert

He voices him on JLU and does a damn good job. So why replace him?

Tomar Re: Adrain Brody

It just seems to fit.

Abin Sur: Lawrence Fishburne

Right look, right attitude, right choice.

Ganthet: Warwick Davis

Because he's perfect.

Sinestro: Jean Reno

He's one of my favortie actors and I would love to see him as Sinestro.

I never liked Haysbert as Kilowag. I always thought he would have a voice more like Benders from futurama.

Ben Browder would be a good choice for Hal. And as for Sinestro I would choose Gary Oldman.

I think ZomCom did some excellent casting...

Like it or not, Ben Browder already plays Hal Jordan.

Morris Chestnut is quite talented, there's no doubt he can do an angry architect

I think Ryan Gosling's a bit too old for a 'just starting out' Kyle... It'd kinda be like "Batman and Robin" where Robin is just as old as Batman...

I think Harrisson Ford is the greatest choice for Alan Scott, but Steven Collins is a great second choice. He knows how to be sensible and impactful, just as a WWII veteran should be. I hate comics mystical de-aging in movies... especially when there's talented older actors (ala Ian Mackellen) around.

Haysbert owns Kilowogg... there's simply no two ways about it. I can't imagine this massive mountain who knows more about science than Einstein sounding like... well... a man of half his size and intellect.

And honestly, females in GL are just eye candy and provide emotional fodder when they die, go crazy or turn ****ty (or all of the above!) So any hot actress can play Jade, Carol and Katma.

Hugo Weaving would own Sinestro. Take that arrogance from his LOTR role and the physical training from his Matrix role and give him some face paint. Sinestro rules. Nuff Said.

Replace Josh Lucas with Jim Caviezel and you might have an interesting ensemble. The only bad thing is that Redford looks more like this now:

Robert Redford

Seriously, I would watch that movie ten times in a row.

Awww... you don't read the comics, huh?

There's a very nice Hal propaganda thread here: "Your GL Movie"
I believe comments of this agenda and logic would fit better there. I could restate my arguements against those points here if you feel it is necessary.

I read the comics. And Earth seems to be the only planet with 4 of their species as Green Lantern.

It seems on every other planet that's represented in the Corp., whenever someone in one race is killed, someone else of the same race takes their place.

That is possibly because there are a lot of worlds in sector 2814 (at least that we know of). Out of the 3600 sectors, there are a vast number that have not been written about and have yet to know how many are from other planets.

Hmmm. Well, Hal got it from Abin Sur, Bodikka got her new ring (in recent GL 13) from someone I'm not even sure was from her sector. The rules are a LOT more flexible than that, but I think the basic issue is that Earth is a special case. Earth is the only planet with 4 of their species as GL because, among MANY other things, Earth is the only Planet who had a GL possessed by Parallax and The Spectre and Earth was home to the last remaining GL for years. That simple. These are both rediculously unlikely, however, I think if we realize that GL comics are written by writers biased towards Earth, and that there may be other planets so inclined (who patrols Salaak's sector?) we perhaps can let this go.

But the truth is it makes our favorite characters (in my case John) feel less special, because there's two more of him (Kyle's not a GL anymore) running around somewhere. I, being the generous type, would much rather see these GL's differentiated (Guy being the honor guard, Hal being... Hal) that to eliminate the "competition" cuz that's just not what GL is about. The characters all have way too much history.

Another Green Lantern casting thread? Is this like the 99th?
Why not a Spirit casting thread, considering that Frank Miller will start shooting in some months?

I like Ben Browder as Hal but he's getting up there with age.

Also here's the deal.

A Green Lantern movie needs no one other than Hal. OK, well maybe Kilowog. All you really need is Hal, Kilowog, and some other alien Green Lanterns. I don't get why Earth is allowed to have more lanterns represented in the corps more than anyone else. Makes no sense to me.

So you have Hal as the newbie. You have Kilowog as the drill sargeant, older mentor/veteran, drinking buddy type. Sinestro is the villain. The Guardians are bosses. That simple.

Love interest? You could go a few ways.

Don't bog the movie down with a million other human green lanterns. Hal is all you need to start with.
