I just watched the trailer for The Beginning and realized how good it looks compared to the remakes three years ago. Anyways, I think it would be a lot scarier to have made the real texas chainsaw massacre.
I watched a program that the killer was a mormon who killed two of his mormon friends using a jack-saw in the building he worked in. There was this whole "stay away from him because we think hes evil" kind of vibe to him. I think that would be a scarier movie, just getting into the brain of this guy, and killing fellow worshippers...it was the mormon aspect that freaked me out. How did they know he killed them with the jacksaw in the company building? They found one of the mormon's (or both of the mormon's...I can't remember, sorry) hair on it, like a klump f it or something. Freaky stuff. I wouldn't mind helming that movie. Does a horror movie nowadays HAVE to have a tool-wielding maniac and HAVE to have teenagers running around in fright? That's boring as bat****.

Well it was some sort of the true Texas Chainsaw Massacre type thing.
No matter if that was the base and then they built the massacre over that and actually made a massacre, I don't care...I wanna see the massacre that was supposedly the "real" deal. I just think it's scarier. Nothing scarier than a mormon with friend (just kidding, you guys rock)

Ed Gein was the true story that these movies were INSPIRED BY. The real murders took place in Wisconsin back in the early half of the last century. Tobey Hooper just thought of the idea of the chainsaw from a bad grocery store experience where an old lady was taking too much time to check out and he saw a rack of chainsaws. Just guess what ran through his mind. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was merely chosen to sound cool and "real." That's also why Tobey Hooper filmed it documentary style with handheld cameras and whatnot. Part of it was due to budget though.
Anyways, pick up the two disc set of the TCM remake and there's an whole hour dedicated to Ed Gein, Tobey Hooper and the other films that the Ed Gein story inspired (Psycho, Silence of the Lambs). |

The really sad thing is though is that these movies have a lot of people fooled.
I live in Texas and when the remake came out I was in high school. There were tons of people hyped up about it and how it was true. Even some people were sharing "I know a guy, who knew a guy" type stories that proved in some peoples minds that these movies were mostly fact. However, when I brought of the Eddy Gein story and told them that it was really the inspiration for the movie and many other movies I got a bunch of blank stares and people saying "bull****." Oh well, ignorance is bliss I suppose. Even though I don't know what kind of bliss you can attain when you think theres a man roaming the woods in a ladies dress wielding a chainsaw. |

Best marketing ploy ever...The original had so many convinced it had to be a true story. With it's claims of authenticity and it's gritty documentary feel it remains one of the most immersive and terrifying movies ever made. The sequels and the remake all pale in comparison.

Yeah Cannon screwed Hooper with the second one and Jeff Burr got royally ass raped with the 3rd one. They chopped it up so bad. Now the 4th one was way way way out there. |

If you want to see the "the real massacre" just watch the movie Ed Gein or its new title In The Light of the Moon.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0230169/ This is what the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was loosely based on. If you watch the special features of the new 2 disc Ultimate Edition you will learn about Ed Gein and what a sick **** he was. Just a little side note. My Elementary and High School friend worked on this movie. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0187861/ |

I like the remake better than the original, but the original is still an awesome movie.
