Well this is definitely an influence on the new movie, and guess what? Not everyone on the Hype hates this show. VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I did like the show, bixby was an amazing actor
, really making you feel for banner, it along with the cartoons is what got me onto the comics. I always hated the hulk though, not his actions just his look, think it was the hair that put me off .

It was great, the acting was on key, and with what they had, they did wonders.
It just doesn't hold up to what I want from a Hulk live action experience nowadays. |

Great thread. Long overdue.
The only reason so many ppl on the Hype don't like this show, is because most are too young to have grown up with it. Those of us in our 30's who absolutely worshipped this thing back when it originally aired, appreciate how risky it was for tv to air a show about a giant green man, and have a caliber actor like Bixby become part of what made it great. Sure Ferrigno running around in slippers is kinda corny ( i admit, i didn't notice those as a kid), but there's no denying the stories, music and acting that this tv is famous for.

The Incredible Hulk was so popular even Mr. Rogers visited the set on an episode of his show.

I will always hold a fondness for the show, being a kid when it first came out...but it was very much a product of it's time. As dated now as something like the George Reeves Superman was when the Donner movie rolled round.
Bixby remains a great Banner though, however utterly lame Ferrigno's Hulk is to our eyes now. Oh, and my dad hated the show, which he saw as being a rather obvious rip off on "the Fugitive", just with a big green plot device showing up twice an episode.

I am too young (18) to remember growing up on it... my memories were always of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," (my first word was even 'Cowabunga' I kid you not.) "The Amazing Spider-man," "Batman Animated Series" and "X-men" cartoons of the 90's.
But... I do occasionally watch the show whenever it hits the Sci-Fi channel. Though Lou will always be a lame Hulk in my eyes... the show is still great. I love Bixby as Banner. |

I feel the same way about the 80's 'Knight Rider' show.

So, Dirty Harry's right...if, even today, Lou is pretty impressive in person, back THEN when that type of thing was very rare, Lou was an absolute spectacle.

I'd be willing to bet he's big enough to pick you up and snap your spine like a stick - were he so inclined.
![]() But seriously, how big the Hulk is in the comics all depends on who 's pushing the pencil. I've seen him drawn as being only slightly taller than a "normal" tall person, to appearing gigantic; in an issue of The Rampaging Hulk Magazine for instance, Gene Colon drew the Hulk at different scales in the same story! In one particular panel, the Hulk was bigger than a four door sedan! Same deal with the definition and exaggeration of the muscularity. Heavily-muscled beefy guy (Kirby) to uber-'roided inhuman behemoth (Keown). For all those griping because they want to see a Hulk more in tone with Jack Kirby's original concepts... ummm... Lou's Hulk was spot-on "Kirby" over 30 years ago:

I agree sooo much. This place is loaded up with not only young people who dont remember the series but will bash it without ever watching it, but also stuck up bandwagon fans. This is the reason why I left this board way back at the end of its Spider-man Hype days and early Superhero Hype days. I remember one arguement with some kid probably in his late teens (He might even still be on the boards) bashing this TV series. Now normally I dont argue much, its his opinion, but he kept running his mouth about how huge of a Hulk fan he was and how he knew everything about the comics and TV show. Funny thing was he didnt even know the actor who played David. (On a sidenote...can anyone tell me has this place changed any or is it still loaded up with bandwagon fans?) But as you can see from my handle I am a huge fan of this TV series and even though it does show its time and age it still is quite enjoyable. |

I'm young to have seen it, 23, but I was lucky enough to be introduced to it when I was a preteen, so it still had an awe factor.
But if I'd of gotten to grow up with it, wow, it sure beats the hell out of that superman soap opera they have nowadays. |

I remember people being upset that they weren't making the Ang film using the same concept of bodybuilder painted green.

I'll always love the television show for many reasons. To me the show has the best portrayal of Banner. I don't feel that Banner has to be the geeky introvert that he was portrayed early in the comics. Seeing the first commercial for the pilot is what got me seriously into reading comics, so I could never knock the show. I loved that the show was a serious take on the character as well as all the serious issues that Banner came across on his lonely travel and dealt with. The shows surreal psychedelic music scoring was excellent. I still watch the shows today and get a kick out of them especially the way Bixby would seriously beg someone to stop kicking his a$$ because he knew what was coming.

I thought the show was 100% better than Hulk 2003. I hope this film emulates the show.
